I got this engine cooling error message this morning when I drive my car. Anybody experience this before?

This is a commonly experienced warning, and could be one of the following:

a) One or both of the vacuum tubes controlling the exhaust valves on S and PSE cars is loose or completely disconnected. I have had this happen twice and each time the dash tells you via the yellow Coolant Sytem error or failure message. Also, you will notice your car sounds like it has the PSE engaged at all times.

b) I believe others have had one of the Change Over Valves (COV) fail. A quick search on this forum should provide you with a number of threads on this topic.

If you don't notice any other symptoms, it is likely one of the two. If you see higher temps, other issues get to the dealer.

Good luck!

Thanks plenum.
I didn't recognize the change in sound like the PSE engaged. I do have higher oil temps once, like the oil temps when up to 128 degrees driving normally (but only once cause usually I drive short distance and the oil and water temp stay low).

Gotta love those faulty Change over valves.

Bravo Porsche for being so very proactive in dealing with the 4 year ongoing debacle.

Anyone know if it's possible to force a manufacturer to disclose component failure/replacement rates? You would think DOT or NHTSA would require some kind of accountability, no?

First they'd have to acknowledge that there's a problem.
Then you'd have to prove that it's an actual safety issue.
With airbags, ignition, brakes or fuel issues I could see the NHTSA getting involved.
But with widespread COV failures, not so much.

Agree with dux.... unless there is a safety issue, there aren't any government agencies that I know of that would give a rats a$$ whether we Porsche owners lost A/C, car sounds like a truck, gives false temp readings, and so on.

What I am concerned about, honestly as a consumer, is what happens when my C4S is out of warranty and my cabin heat stops working due to a COV failure? Cheap parts, throw-away, I know. But that will be $$ out of my pocket, perhaps repeatedly....
