F1 in future??
F1 in future??
VW rumored to be interested in buying the Red Bull F1 team (who is trying to get rid of anemic Renault engine) . If actually true, wonder what engine manufacturer they would use from their stable of manufactures??
Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari under one umbrella would be too much for the bean counters in VW. Given Porsche's LeMans/WEC success (finally) and there sudden lust for mini displacement engines , supplying the F1 engines on the existing Red Bull chassis would seem easy. Plus if they don't, MB will just keep getting all the F1 accolades for next decades.
About two years ago Porsche announced not interested in F1 and would leave that to Audi. Porsche would concentrate on sports car racing. Porsche cannot, essentially, expand much in production so why pay the cost of F1 when you've effectively sold out your products anyway.
Given the way Red Bull has treated Renault (blamed), what engine manufacturer would want to work with the Red Bull? Renault won 4 out of the last 6 championships with Red Bull with little credit, though Renault have received nearly all of the blame the last season and a half.
Vettel had a good comment on friday, if we (Ferrari) supply their engines next season then its only fair that they lend us some of their chassis development.

That said, it's true that Red Bull may have been overly vocal about the issues and their intent to leave F1 (especially, like you pointed out, after 4 world championship wins).
I think the main problem that's screwing over my favorite sport is the lack of testing. It's sad when an F1 driver practices more on a simulator than on track; equally sad when a manufacturer can't troubleshoot engines until race weekend.
The sport needs a radical turnaround in the testing department. That's one area that shouldn't have been targeted with cost-cutting and efficiency measures.
one thing is for sure, I will be pulling for Renault next season, Red Bull threw them under the bus, and ran them over many times, I think they have something to prove and would love to run the Cans face in it!!!
Will there be a next season for Renault? R u going to COTA F1 race?
