Future value of my CD

I was wondering that even if the VW fiasco does not affect my CD, it may have affected public perception of all diesels. Some news stories even imply that the future of diesel engines as used in cars and light trucks is over.

My gut reaction is that the CD is going to take a huge depreciation cut, rather than the slow one that I was anticipating for it. If so, may as well drive it until all refined German urea is sold out in the world. It is a nice SUV and rather than my usual 8 years per car ownership, just keep driving it until maybe 15-20 years?

trade in today if your plan before was to sell it in the next 2yrs anyway. but if you weren't planning on selling it before, you should keep it because it's the same car today compare to last week before the vw fiasco.

Yes, I am planning to keep the diesel PIG for a long time. I hope diesel is still widely available as of today. The VW 2.0 TDI's are the main reason why more and more gas stations are adding diesel pumps.

Was always to keep mine for the long haul anyway. I do think this is the death knell for diesel in the US for the average person, but it will continue to have the same niche it always has.

In the short term it will hurt resale values, but if it really cones to pass that it goes back to a niche there will be less new car options and less buyers so we'll see a recovery in the long run.

Porsche vs Audi

Well, since I don't know where to post this, I'll post it here.
Looks like one of the side effects of all this is that Porsche is now combined with Bentley and Bugatti. While Audi keeps Lamborgini and Ducati. Kind of makes sense.

From the press release:

"Porsche brand group with Bentley and Bugatti
At Group level the management structure will be oriented even more systematically to the modular toolkits. These toolkits feature standardized technical components for each automotive vehicle segment (volume, premium, sport and commercial vehicles). Consequently, a Porsche brand group with Bentley and Bugatti will be established for the sportscar and mid-engine toolkit. The toolkit strategy will come under the even closer guidance of the Group CEO; a separate department will be set up for this purpose. The Audi brand group with Lamborghini and Ducati will be continued as will the Truck Holding, and the Power Engineering and Financial Services business lines. The volume brands Volkswagen (with principal responsibility for the modular transverse toolkit), SEAT, and Škoda will be represented by one member each in the Group Board of Management."

Seems that I recall that being talked about a few months ago. If so its just incidental timing and nothing to do with the diesel fiasco.

Can't wait to buy one of those used tdi Jettas. There is nothing wrong with them except what the msm puts forth that the people take as fact without reading below the headlines. Porsche is not affected.
