First Post.....First Porsche

Hey Guys,

This is my very first post. I have be lurking and (hopefully) learning for about 6 weeks. Anyway, I went to my nearest Porsche dealer last week and was ready to purchase a car.

That's when I learned about the new 991.2. Up to that point all that I knew (or thought) I knew was the new 911 were 991's.

So on with my question.

I am having a difficult time choosing a color for the car. My first choice was Racing Yellow and my second was GT Racing Silver. Everyone I have showed photos to tells me go with the silver. Until now I had not noticed how many silver cars there are out there.

So what is the best of the two colors. My sales person says it's a sports car go with the Yellow. I had a yellow car back in the late sixty's and got a lot of tickets. I was young then. I'm old now and it's time to get into this car while I can still drive.

My second question is on wheels. With the Silver car I like the RS Spyder Wheels. On the Yellow car I like the Carrera Classic Wheels.

It is a difficult decision for me so any and all reply's will be greatly appreciated.

The car will be a....

911 Carreras 4S. I decided I needed just about everything on it except full leather, rear wheel steering, and the Carbon brakes.

I realize my post is a total newbe post but I needed some help.

Oh, and this post is really late in coming. I only have a couple days to make build the car. To get a 991.2 Carrera put me into a June/July delivery date. A 4S puts me into a March/April delivery date. I want the car yesterday. LOL

Thanks
Arlan

I'm on my 5th Porsche now....

Yellow diminishes your resale market. That same salesman telling you to get yellow will be the same guy saying they can't give you a really good trade-in price because the car is yellow and most resale buyers want black or silver. If you're going to keep the car a very long time, then get what moves you.

Full cow is very nice inside! As for wheels, depends on how far you want to go. I always get the basic no-charge wheel and then put a set of HRE's on 'em....

drcollie is giving you good advice. Color is very personal but if you are hesitant, then you can't go wrong with GT silver- it's beautiful.
Also as this is your first P car, you will no doubt get another and then resale will be relevant.
Good luck- don't go crazy with the options on the configurator.

Thank you for the reply. I love the color of your car. The Agate Grey Metallic was up there on my color selections. Your HRE wheels are similar to the MS Spyder Design I will chose on the my Silver car.

Thanks...I am pretty sure I will go with the silver.

On the configurator.

I went with adaptive cruise control as I have it on a Ford I own and really love it. Went with the lane assist or BLIS (Ford yuk) option. Went with the Burmester Sound System, multi function steering wheel, Power Sports Seats (14 Way) Memory Package. Also went with Front Axel Lift System as my driveway is in question as to whether or not I will touch concrete.

And a couple of less $$$$ options. They add up pretty fast.

I am really looking forward to receiving this car. It is still 3 1/2 to 4 months away.

Adaptive CC and lane assist are ok if you are going to do some serious highway miles. Otherwise maybe put the funds towards PSE and PCCB- just my 0.02 cents.
Also make sure if you are getting the PDK, you get the paddle shifters on the MF wheel. I have the 918 style wheel on my Macan and it's very nice.
Bose is good enough for me but if you are an audiophile the Burm is supposed to be nice.

After 12 Porsche cars I thought I would never own a Red Porsche. But as you can see by my avatar I now have a Guards Red 4S. So get the color that excites you. As far as wheels get what you really like and most likely you will want to change at a later date anyway. It's part of the ownership experience, mods and updates.

The 4S is an awesome car in the 991.1 version and I am sure it will be awesome in the 991.2 version too. Get PASM or SPASM. I have PDCC which is subjective but I love it. Either way you will love the car. I'm 62 going on 17 and still enjoy these cars like I did years ago.

Good luck and enjoy.

The C4S is a great choice. IMHO- get black over silver or yellow. I had a yellow GT3 and then a silver GT3-loved the silver better BUT I wished I had gotten black. With Black, all the trim matches without having to spend any extra $$ to have the trim pieces painted to match. Don't waste your money on PCCB. I had iron on the first GT3 and PCCB on the second- for normal driving both were excellent. No need to pay $9K for the yellow calipers. Lastly, by all means, get the manual. It's not as fast on the track as the PDK but who cares? It's much more engaging.

Bottom line, enjoy enjoy enjoy.

I did order the Sport Exhaust. I love the way it moved the tailpipes inward on the car. I was considering the PCCB but the $8500 price tag along with some negative posts on this forum made me decide against them.

I was considering the PASM but the 991.2 is already lowered by 40mm and didn't know if I needed another 20mm. Like I mentioned before I did order the suspension lift as my drive way is close to being a problem.

I love black cars. If they belong to someone else. I don't the discipline to care for a black car. Sorry, went with the PDK. I really prefer the automatic. But to each his own.

My 981 Boxster and 991 C4 had MTs and they were a lot of fun...you really felt the control over the cars, but launching was problematic. My 991 GTS has the PDK and I could not be happier with that set-up. I mostly drive it in Sport+, which really allows full use of the paddles...and then there's that exhaust note! By the way, black is not as difficult to maintain as you might think. I keep the car garaged and use Pinnacle no-rinse to wash it weekly.

Arlan,

If you are ordering a 4S, then PASM is standard. Maybe you were thinking of SPASM, which does lower it even more, but at the expense of a stiffer ride. Sounds like it's a done deal, but if you haven't decided on the color yet, then I'd suggest that you don't worry about resale and just get what you want!

If you are seriously concerned about resale value, then you should buy a stripper/no option base car in black. That will give you the best ROI.
