Engine Cover Strut Failure
Struts, horns and other such part are not made by Porsche. They also don’t make the tires and windshield glass or window regulators. Moving parts that are not used, like the engine cover / stru will dry up and fail. It’s just a car with many parts. **** happens.
Rennline makes a mechanical strut with lifetime warranty and only 1 strut needed…..$100 part….did the replacement on the one on passenger side taking off air box cover to access…..happy now….my 4th time replacing the struts…
They just failed on my 2016 so I ordered new ones but apparently this will not be the last time. Makes you wonder that with all the solenoid failures (change over valves) the compartment runs very hot.
I have had my engine cover struts replaced twice, the first change lasted a week before they failed, the last one is 6 months old. C2S 4 years old, nearly.

Haven't been here in a while and just came across this thread. Mine just crapped out on 2017 991.2 (build date of Oct 2016 I believe) so about six and a half years old. Despite the OEMs proving not to be very dependable long term, I went ahead and ordered a set for both front (frunk) and rear engine deck lid from FCP which have lifetime replacement. All in pretty cheap.
