Cleaning black wheels

First let me say IMHO the gloss black wheels are the way to go if you want black wheels. I got the mattes and they look great wet (gloss). I’m guessing that glass is also easier to clean.

The whole look of my car depends on clean wheels. No exaggeration, it takes 2 miles of driving to coat a clean wheel with brown brake dust. (Those new optional carbide dustless brakes avail. starting w/the new Cayenne would be worth the additional $).

Does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning/keeping these wheels clean? I waxed them. It makes them slightly easier to clean, but they get dirty just as fast.

I have stock brakes. The rust colored dust sucks... any dustless aftermarket pads that aren’t a huge compromise on performance (i.e. in winter temps)?

Any help is appreciated. My last satin platinum wheels were a dream to maintain by comparison.

Thanks,
DRP

Try getting them ceramic coated. This makes the surface so slick that most brake dust will rinse off with a water hosing.

Welcome to the club. Porsche wheels dust up like crazy, not easy solution. Best solution is to get carbon ceramic - I wish I had.

Try lost dust brake pads. It won't resolve the issue completely, but will help.

Coating the wheels will help to.

Like I said, best solution is CCB. All others only help a little, but does not solve.

If you do find an easy solution, post up.

One of my only regrets with how I built my car was that I didn't choose the PCCBs. It's silly to spend $8k for non-performance related reasons, but the brake dust on the matte black wheels is terrible.

But, a quote comes to mind: "maybe the best we can hope for us that we end up in life with the right regrets."

I'd say satin is the way to go not gloss. Gloss looks brutal, as you say, after 2 mikes. Satin doesnt really look bad for quite a while. I have gloss AG 510s on my SQ5 and they look great for 2 miles. As others have said, wax might keep some dust from sticking but there really isnt a magic potion unfortunately.

Problem solved with these two products. You can thank me later

Ceramic/Quartz coating for your wheels:

Wheel cleaner that I recommend. PH Neutral, won't hurt your wheels, and neutralizes iron deposits within a minute or so:
http://www.esotericcarcare.com/gyeon-q2m-iron/

There are product videos on those pages too, I highly recommend you watch both.

Yup, it works just as well on Satin finishes. When I visited Esoteric a few months ago, I too wanted to see if there was any difference in the coating's performance when the clear coat is satin instead of gloss. The coating performed just as well so you're good to go!

I have coated wheels and while they may be easier to clean than non-coated wheels, you can't just hose them off. Even with wheel cleaner. If you want them really clean then you have to get down and hand wipe/brush every spoke. No getting around it.

Think I'll try a wheel coating but having said that I'm not sure how much easier wheel cleaning can get....soap and water and weight of sponge.

I wouldn't blanket your statement to all wheel coatings, it sounds like yours just isn't performing as well. I can hit mine with the pressure washer just like this and have it be clean, no problem. Especially if you have a good wheel cleaner like Gyeon Iron, washing is very easy for me.
