I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 2012 991 S cab. It's got all the options I want except PSE, which is a must have.

I've seen you can get a PSE for reasonable price and I thinkI can DIY it. However, not sure about a few key things.

I've done a bunch of searches on the PSE retro fit, but I haven't seen much on switch and electrical connections. Other than the dealer having to program the switch, is it truly a plug and play?

Meaning does a non PSE 991 S cab have connection points for the PSE vacuum and electrical connections? Also, does the cabin switch panel just plug in to the existing harness or does it require wiring back to the exhaust?

Is you car a 2012 or a 2012.5 991.1? The S model comes with valved "sport" muffler. Changing to a PSE muffler is a simple switch. You would have to find a used PSE muffler( or buy a new one) and new console with a PSE switch. Plus you will need a few hardware items from Porsche. I just went through this on my 2012.5 CS. The sound is awesome, and you can control it!

 

 

Yes I did it myself all but having the local Porsche stealership program the PSE. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined but have never tackled a Porsche project like this before. It's pretty straight forward and pretty simple. This is also a good time to replace air filters and serpentine belt. Let me know if you have any questions.
