advice on 991 s.
Short history , I am a car guy, had 997.2, then a Panamera. Have neither now. Do most service myself when I can. I have a Chevy PPV, Caprice 6.0 as a DD and a new WRX as a toy right now.
I thought I wouldn't tie up much money again in a car I don t use often (my 911) , which I do miss. Started looking online at 991s. So I m wondering what are the sweet years? I want at least an S and would consider a 4S or GTS. Wouldn't be a DD. Also wondering how bad the depreciation will be in the next few years? Thinking a 15-17(CPO)? Price drop when the 2020s (992) come out? Price range on a low mileage one? Any other tips?

Best value/least depreciation will be the oldest, lowest mile/best condition 991 that you can find. 991.1 was from '12 - '16, 991.2 from '17 to '19. There are no "bad years." The '12 may not have a handful of options that were available '13 and on but nothing earth shattering. Common issues with 991.1's were change over valve failures - most have probably been already replaced under warranty or a campaign update so I wouldn't let that stop me.
Changes with the 991.2 in '17, smaller 3.0 twin turbo engine, more torque (much quicker) but sounds slightly less emotional (although still acceptable to many). Upgraded infotainment system, some minor interior and exterior updates and a few new options (rear axle steering, etc.). The base 991.2 is quicker than the 991.1 GTS (!).
I've owned a '12.5 991S (the model year 2012 saw production of the 997.2 early in the year and mid-year they switched to the 991.1) launch car, a '13 991S, and currently have a 2018 991.2GTS. All great cars, you cannot go wrong.
I don't think there will be a massive drop in price when the 992 comes out (one factor is that the 992 will be priced higher than the outgoing 991.2) but depreciation will continue of course, with older model 991's lower on the depreciation curve than newer 991's.

Nothing yet. Made offer on dealer 16 GTS. No deal. (Sold)
Looking a 17S, awaiting dealer s numbers. I m not jumping in to pay full "make the dealer happy price". Don t need it that bad now.
All CPO low mileage cars.
