Fog Light Switch on 991 911?

All,

This may be a dumb question but are the fog lights in the front of a 991 always on at night? When I turn the headlights on using the switch to the left of the steering wheel next to the ignition, there is an option to pull the switch to flick on the fog lights. I noticed when I pull the ****, there is an incremental light on the rear taillights, but not on the front. Is this normal?

FWIW, I have a 991.1 GT3.

great thanks. I thought the long thin DRLs were the fogs, but that answers my question. I thought something wasn't working.

Putting the fog lights on turns on the rear fog light but also changes the distribution pattern of the headlights up front, depending on your speed. That is why the 991 does not need separate front fog lights.

From the manual: (991.1)

Fog lights
The distribution characteristics of the driving light change when the rear fog light is switched on at vehicle speeds below approx. 43 mph (70 km/h).

The light beam becomes wider and reduces glare.
Note that I could not find the same for the 991.2 in its respective manual so I wonder if they changed that?

I tried my fog lights a few nights ago and there was no change in the lights distribution up front and only the drivers side rear fog light came on. Is that normal?

Hey Bob did both your rear fogs light up one or just the driver side one?

She said she did not notice any difference, but I think I will try it myself since my older P-cars only had 1 rear fog light.

I believe that this is a European feature only just as is the high beam adjustment at over 76mph

My old Volvo wagon had the European Rear fog...just the driver rear...turned brighter red.
Nothing to do with the front.
The Germans laugh at us, mericans...cuz we don't understand all the features of our cars.
Out of spite, they gave us those lousy cup holders...lol

My past '87 930 had a rear fog on just one light, which I thought was one of those Porsche things like the ignition close to the door they would continue to have.
