YES / NO? Extended Warranty

Owner of a 2014 Carrera S (low miles, 13k) that runs smoothly. Factory warranty runs out this Friday, 2/28. No CPO, as I did not acquire this from a Porsche dealer.

DO I OPT FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY? Thoughts?

My hunch is NO. This will be my 3rd 991.1 and over the past several years, I have barely needed the CPO warranty. And if I did, I know firsthand my Independent mechanic would have charged me less than 1/2 of dealer charge...only reason I'd got to the dealer was bc said work was 100% covered.

On that note, yes, I have a fantastic Indie mechanic who, for instance, will use OES parts and charge a fraction to me for labor. Ex: recent brake pads replacement x 4 both axles on my prior 911 was 1500$ or so at dealer using "OEM" boxed part and massive hourly rates. I walked out the door with a bill of $526 including tax from my Indie.

But regardless, still want others' 2C!!

Cheers,
Rahul

Nice find! I’d say in your case, you might be better off passing on the extended warranty.

I myself, opted for the 10 year/100k mile warranty. However, I did so because I am buying the time more than I am the miles.

Friend of mine had his PDK take a dump at 80k miles and only 8 years old. It was a first year 7-speed PDK for his spyder, mine is a first year 8-speed PDK. So you get where I’m going with this lol

Dealership worked out a good deal for it too, so it’s peace of mind more than anything

Good luck

If you are keeping the car you can pick one up for not that much - have you received some Fidelity quotes? Michael Jordon at Mossy Motors can give you a quote if not since he had written a lot of these for Porsches over the years: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1135...-jordan-3.html

Worth every penny. None of the third-party ones are as good as the peace of mind you get with Porsche.
