PCM3.1 CarPlay Retrofit

Hi,

Has anyone added any of the CarPlay aftermarket retrofit kits such as the NM Automotive
kit:

https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/carplay-androidauto

Seems the current older 3.1 PCM on my 2012 can be upgraded to have CarPlay and add a backup cam
with this retrofit. Has anyone tried it or something similar? Any issues or recommendations of an aftermarket retrofit kit?

Thanks,
Jon

Probably not worth the headache and challenge - unless you're up for it

Many vids on youtube including some PCAR owners who show how they did the mod. It requires major surgery - taking out the head unit and opening it up to insert a new circuit board and ribbon cables. Sirius board has to be removed (in some cases). Separate microphone installation required as well. For what I've seen on Carplay - on my BMW, not intuitive to use and requires you look and touch the screen to do things, more dangerous than using the stalk.

Try over here. I did the Install it’s pretty straight forward, just take time your time. It is not hard. I am still fiddling w the EQ settings. The resolution is not as good as my Q8 but the system itself is a bit older. It’s also not as fast scrolling as well. Overall well worth the 350 dollars and a great upgrade.

I did the joye-auto kit to mine. Still working out the kinks with the wireless (iphone 11 pro), where I can't get it to work properly, but everyone seems to have no troubles at all. The cable works perfectly though. Sound quality is about 8-9/10 as it uses the aux input, and just isn't as good as the bluetooth audio i've found.

James (blue 911 in minnesota) did a nice youtube video on it, and there are others that are pretty active in the 'porsche 991 enthusiast' facebook group.

The install was a little daunting, but with enough patience installs easy enough. LMK if you have any questions or want any pics / videos / help / etc!

I had the NM Automotive system installed. Great customer service. It’s one of my favorite mods. My observations:
1. Good sound quality
2. Siri voice commands for waze, music selection, and do texting very user friendly
3. Front camera not very useful in most driving situations
4. I love the moving backup lines just not quite as accurate as a factory system.
5. I wish the display for park distance was a little large and more pronounced. I guess I was spoiled by the factory large and prominent factory warning
6. The touch screen scroll seems a little slow. I’m probably spoiled by my MBUX touch screen technology in my other vehicle.

Overall I am very happy with the product.

Honestly, I believe that the system I sell is so far the best and I do include all the special tools specific for your car based on the VIN. I have so far 0 failures on all units sold, and yes I do keep track, including those that lives in hot climates.

Here is the link to a video to help with the installation.
