can water/methanol injection do away with IC's
SubscribeHi all,
I am in the process of sourcing parts for my WV Split screen Porsche restoration/Conversion.
I have paid for most of the parts. 3.2 G50 beam and all running gear for the rear and front will be 3.2 front end on a special "Sub Sub" Frame.
I have a goal... standing 1/4 in Sub 16s and faster than 101mph. thats the best I have seen so far.
BUT.....
I want to have a 993 engine with a Turbo kit or Supercharger ( not a 993 Turbo engine). There is little room for IC's, perhaps a 2 small ones. So would Water/Methanol injection be able to do away with IC,s
Engine is a standard 993 non Vario Ram @ 260 bhp but to have a Turbo Kit or Supercharger for another 100 bhp.
Any ideas please.
Frank

There's a guy on rennlist selling a 993NA protomotive stage 1 turbo kit. All the bugs are sorted, I'd buy that personally. No affiliation, etc. I've never seen a turbo w/ just water injection but you could always try it and see if it works.

<<<<<<<<< UPDATE >>>>>>>>>
know have an engine a 1991 964 non vario-ram.
Just unpacked my 964 box & I am now looking out for an LSD??
Any one know where I can learn about the ECU/Fuel injection system for a 1991 964??
Any advise would be very much appreciated.
I think due to heat constraints a Superchrger kit will be the way to go....
So I would like to learn a bit about the Fuel system first.
Thanks

Frank,
I'm not too sure if running IC less with just Water / Methanol Inejction is a good idea. The main thing would be that your tune would ultimately be dependant on your water / methanol reserve. The intercooler / aftercooler for your either FI project would help you have a more consistent cooling aid.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Space is the problem. I might be able to squeeze in 2 small IC's but they will be small and wont get too much air flow. I have read about Aquamist system that has fail safes if the res is empty. It might be the only solution. If you can think of anything, that would be great.
Thanks
Frank
it is possible of course. i have a local buddy running a supercharged viper...no intercooler just meth.

I only expect another 100 hp (unless......????l you never know lol)
I have contacted Motec and hope they can do an ECU for me. Also been in contact with Aquamist waiting a response.
Cheers,
Frank

I am going to Google Tech Art now and see what the score is with their kits.
Thank you again,
Frank
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<UPDATE>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have spoken with Tom from TPC . I spoke for over an hour about the Supercharger Kit.
I like what he has told me. Some even better news is I might very well be able to run a Water/Air IC. TPC is relatively small but he recons if I can find space I would be better of not using his and having a custom one fabricated for more cooling.
Also further forward on an ECU
I have bee looking into a Motec system, with sequential injectors, individual coil packs, diagnostic lap top program and various outputs to devices .
I am on the look out for a 70mm or 80 mm Throttle body. He recons the standard one is a limitation to power output. Having no cats,a sports exhaust, 80mm throttle body , a MAP sensor and not an air flow sensor, with Motec ecu and 6psi boost and good IC should yield 340 whp. Thats 400 crank 9 he recons about 20% transmission etc losses)
Any ideas where I could get a 70 mm or 80 mm TB ????????
