Is the 993 right for me?
Hey all,
I've been nosing around thru the 993 section now, after seeing one and riding in one (97 C4S black/black), I'm in love.... I was originally thinking of getting a 996 at some point in the next year or so, but now a 993 is looking better! The only thing is, I'm trying to figure out more about the cars. I'm reading up on here.... but still wondering how they are holding their value so well, (esp. the turbo!).
My questions for you guys are -
Why are they holding their value so well?
Will they ever appreciate in value/will they be investment cars in the next few years?
Thanks!

last of the aircooled, and supply and demand. there were a lot more 996s built than 993s.
I doubt they will appreciate in value unless you get a rare car, like one of the few wide body cabs, or the last 993 built etc... low mileage cars will hold their value, but I don't see any 993 becoming as valuable as say a Ferrari Daytona. Generally speaking, no, just buy one and drive it!

But Turbos are going for so much! I could almost get into a 996TT, but a 993TT is near out of the question with the pricing the way it is! Amazing cars though, hope to get one before too long.

993's will just about always cost more then a 996. The 993's have far fewer problems, & as said are the last of the bread.
The 993's look much nice & more classic 911 then the 996's. They made less then 1/4 the amount of 993's to 996's. While the 996 is a great car, it was not hand built, they have much more problems, & really they are not in the same shape as the 993's, there more disposable.
Of course the 993's are going to appreciate! But it's going to take some time, I really don't see the prices going down much, that is unless our economy keeps going in the current direction.

What are your plans for the car? Will it be a daily driver or a weekender? IF you're already looking to when it's time to move on to something else, I think the 993 will HANDS DOWN perform better from a depreciation standpoint regardless of if it's a dd or weekender. If you get a 993, it will be a moot point because you'll NEVER want to sell it.......unless it's for another one!

It will be a weekend cruiser... Not a DD. Don't know the mileage I'll put on it - hard to say. But right, who knows how long I'd keep it. I'm looking to buy something for fun in the next year or so - nothing too soon.
Thanks for the insight, guys!
I'm always looking around to see what cars are up for sale, who knows when I'll find one...

996 cab vs. 993 cab
I bought a 2002 996 cab new and bought a 1995 993 cab for my wife with 20k on it. Way less problems with the 993! The 996 is long gone - the 993 in the garage (and probably will be for a very long time!!!)
My only criticism are the headlights (soon to be upgraded)
