New Member, Hope You Like My Car?
Hi Guys,
Moving to Toronto next year and off course i'm gonna bring my baby with me. I imported her from California at a really s*it place called wickedmotorworks.com who sold me a 1996 carrera 2 cab which was so badly damaged repaired that I have ended up spending over $30,000 US Dollars on top of the $40,000 plus shipping and tax of £5000.00 english pounds that it cost me to get the car out of customs & excise which takes the total well above in dollars to $80,000.
When I contacted W.M.W they told me that the car was bought as seen. Before you guys say that I should have seen the car (which you would be right) I thought that buying the car of off a dealership I did not need to because "IT'S A DEALER!!!". Boy was I wrong and my advise to you guys is never, never trust anyone except an Official Porsche Dealership.
Sorry for my rant , will tell you the rest of my story one day but for now I would like to show you guys what she looks like now. Please be kind.

What repairs did it need? $30,000 is a lot in repairs and even if they disclaimed any warranty (and I bet they made you sign papers saying you acknowledge that they make no warranty or representation), you didn't pay $40K for a car that needed $30K in repairs. You might want to elaborate on your story.

In English pounds I paid £25,000 for the car. It cost me £3,500 in Tax to bring the car into the UK plus about £1,700 to ship the car from California which included insurance($40,000).
When I got the car home after a week or so, I took the car to a friend of mine called Peter Darwell who owns a car restoration and body shop called Mech Spray. Which is located in Rochester in Kent. Pete looked at the car and after a couple of minutes of looking at the car he tells me that the car has been in an accident. He was right and I told him that Wickedmotorworks had told me that my had been involved in an accident and had been repaired. This was also on the car history BUT!!! What they did not tell me was how badly the car was repaired. The answer to your question (I bet they made you sign papers saying you acknowledge that they make no warranty or representation) Is NO they did not make me sign anything. When I did talk to them the salesman called Beau he told me that the car was bought as seen and that that was in the small print!
OK maybe I should have read the small print BUT I don't think that any dealer worth his money should sell a customer a car which was so badly damaged repaired and say there is nothing that they can do. In other words tough!
Back to Pete at Mech Spray, Pete told me that hr would have to look at the car a bit closer by outting it on a ramp. I left the car down at his garage and the next day I went back down to find out what was wrong with the car.
He told me that the drivers rear quater panel was damaged and the the suspension was damaged.
Peter told me that I had three options, (1) return the car back to wicked (NO TRIED THAT) (2) sell the car as is (and whoever buys it will know after an inspection what kind of damage the car has) (3) repair the car (the bonus being I will have the car of my dreams (within reason).
Let me finish by saying bear metal respray and finding that the front wing had seventeen coates of colours and if I had all night to tell you what other damage the car had you would say "Why didn't you scrap the car".
Last but not least after a full colour changr to Apple Candy red and a bodykit new OEM front and rear bumpers (old bumpers accident repaired aswel surprise, surprise!) I handed a cheque over for £12,000 plus parts which grand total came to £15,000 translated into US dollars = approx $30,000. So grand total = £40,000 which is $80,000 give or take.
One last thing (before you say that Peter probably did not know what he was on about) Pete's qualifications: Painted Batmobile in Batman 1 & 2 ,painted Eddie Jordons formula 1 cars (when Damon Hill used to drive for them) he painted the shark on the cars, he has painted cars for the David Coultard, Berrnie Ecc, and loads of others. The last car he painted was in the Film Thunderbirds the Pink Rolls.
Please read further. Wicked could never do a car like mine.
Harpo,
It's too bad you didn't seek our thoughts beforehand. Wicked is renowned for taking cars with problems and redoing them. I can't say I've inspected their work first-hand, but I'm not surprised that they cut corners; they're trying to make as much money as possible, and they're not trying to build show cars. The point of my thread was to question whether the car's history was fully disclosed to you. There are laws in California that protect buyers, and even if the car was sold "as is," I would be surprised if the seller could nevertheless misrepresent the car's condition, the work that has and hasn't been done, etc.
In the end, it sounds like you have your dream car. It cost a bit more than you expected, but you had the money to do it, so I think you might just move on. If you still harbor resentment, and I can't blame you, then seek the advice of an attorney, call the better business bureau, etc., if you feel that you were wronged. I say that not knowing all of the facts (both sides); only you, Wicked, and your paperwork can shed light on that.
Good luck either way and welcome to 6speed.

I don't think it woul be worth my time chasing Wicked as I still live in the UK.
I have got over it and now like you said I have my dream car!
I will take some more pictures of my car as it is in my friends bodyshop, waiting to have my sound system fitted. As soon as it done I will will take some more pics for you.

Sorry to hear about your crappy experience. I've seen their cars on ebay, never in person. I do dig candy paint, your color looks great! Just make sure not to get any scratches or chips, I don't think you can ever match candy unless it's done by the same painter with the same technique. Since you are bringing it over to this side of the pond, you might want to consider getting the whole thing wrapped in paint protection film- ask your painter if it's ready for it, ie. cured paint.
cheers!
cheers!
