993 Question

I am looking for a 993 Coupe. I have been looking around and can't find any (even on eBay) for under $15,000. Do you guys know of any places that have 993's in this price range? Why are the 993's more expensive? I am just new to the 993 (Know a lot about 930's, 996's, and 997's mostly). Thanks.

The 993 is the last aircooled porsche. You can get a 964 for that price, but they are chuck full of problems.

You'll have a hard time finding a 993 at that price (or even close). They're still a highly sought after 911 and a favorite among Porsche fans. Last of the air cooled models, hand made and a blast to drive
that said, if you can find one within your price range it's worth every dime!!

Tough nut to crack at under $15k. If you find one in that range it's likley to need some $$$. That said, there's no better driving experience imho.

I saw a 930 on eBay that had a 993 body kit on it and looked like the real thing, I couldn't tell the difference. Where could you get something like that (bumpers, lights, etc.)?

Thanks for all the helpful info.

Here's the link.

I have seen wrecked 993s for sale in the 8-12k range. If you get one that is straight and you are mechanically inclined, you could buy one and rebuild it yourself. If you buy the right car, do all the work yourself, put used parts on it, and don't mind the salvage title, you might be able to do it for under $15k.

Otherwise, you are faced with either a very high mile car, a long wait while you save up, or a 964.

YMMV.

Good luck!

Paul.

Don't buy a FrankenPorsche. You have no idea of it's history (salvage title etc) and it's future resale value will be very suspect. If you want a 993, get a 993. It's not just the body work but the entire package. Look for a first year (95) 993 RWD if you're on a budget. Or get a 96-98 wide body car if your budget allows it. The most common long term problem has been value guides at 80K. That said, body modifications are not always bad if you use factory or TUV parts such as Techart, just as long as they are period correct for the vehicle. I had a full RS body kit on mine but it was all factory parts for a 95RS. I sold it for a significant premium over similar year/milage 993's. The cost to modify an older Porsche to look like a 993 will far exceed the price of just buying a 993 and will not significantly increase the value of the car you started with.

I'd stay away from the 964AWD as they are problematic. You could also get a used 996 for less than a 993 just stay away from the first few years as they had engine design/casting problems

$15k, not sure I would want on in that price range.

Really to get a nice one, you are close to $30k.

Yea, I found one for $16k, and it has 125k miles, but owner replaced engine (correct) 25k miles ago? It needs a little work (interior) but is otherwise solid looking. I wanted to know if its a good deal.

Here is what it looks like...

Does it have a Turbo Widebody?

It's not a widebody. Looks like you got some mods on there.
Euro rear tail lamps (yellow corners)
RS front splitters
Aftermarket tail pipes, maybe exhaust also?
Not really feeling the wheels.

You get what you pay for.
Good luck finding a cheap 993.
Good 993's are tough to find.

looks like a 95, but ask yourself. why did he change the engine. also look for a tread where a "dealer" sold a fellow 6speeder a car with a washed title. it was a salvage, but got a "fresh" title. personally, unless you know the history, or owner walk. the car could cost you that much just to get it working right. just my 2 cents.

Check carfax on the vehicle--no guarentee that all the information is correct and a PPI. May be a cheap buy in but more expensive down the line. Have fun in the search!!

These were one of the best years, and they are such a classic....One of the best years to me hands down....Plus the value held up pretty well, they didn't over saturate the market like they did with the 996's, and 997's
