LED Taillights? And other lighting questions
Hi all,
My dad just bought a 993 C2S. It's got real low miles but has seen some better days, the taillights have cracked on both sides and will need replaced. Are there any LED taillights available for the 993? I see tons for the 996, but haven't seen any for the 993.
It also needs the front bumper lights, do they make those in LEDs? It's got projector headlights, but not HIDs. Were the projectors normal equipment for these cars, or are they for HIDs but this one has halogens for some reason?

Hi,
Congrats to your dad. These are great cars.
I'm unaware of an LED aftermarket kit for the taillights. I'd just get new ones and new halogen bulbs.
For the front, however, many people replace the fog lights with higher wattage bulbs (search eBay for 993 turbo scoop or air duct). And there are great aftermarket HID kits for this car that give you the look of stock litronics (xenon) for under $200 and 30 minutes of work.

Thanks for the input.
I was already planning on switching it out with some HIDs, I did projector retrofits on my current vehicle, and don't think I could go back to halogens.
The Turbo S ducts looks like they're the way to go, look a lot better than the normal foglights.
Too bad about the LED tails not existing. Maybe I'll make him some.

You can try DTM for HID lights. they cost around 45 bucks and work great. I have had them on my car for over two years with no issues. I have the 35W units but they do sell the 55 watts. Get the 4300 or 4500 units and they will match the OEM units perfectly. The 6000k units have a blue hue to them.
You could also get a set for the fog lights and are easy to install. You will have to make a 1 inch hole on the back of the foglight to fit the nuew bulb.
The other great upgrade you can do is the suspension. A PSS10 or OM30 set up works great.
What color is the car? Any pics.

His car is white.
It sat for a while, so the paint's not in great shape, and it isn't running yet (I'm thinking its the DME relay or other fuel pump type issue, it cranks, and it'd start of starter fluid, but it would not stay running). It needs a little work, but he didn't buy it to drive it to work every day, it's a toy car for him, and working on it is half the fun.
Here's a couple of it while we were washing it and trying to get some luster back into the paint (when it was delivered, there was NO gloss, and when you touched the car you got white paint on your hand). The only gloss from the first 2 pics is where there was water on it while washing.

It looks a lot better now though, the paint has some shine to it. It's also got a hodgepodge of different parts. Looks to me like an RS kit, Turbo S wing, and RSR wheels. Supposedly all the parts were done by the dealer, but that's all based on the previous owner's word.
It's only got 24k miles on it, so by my calculations he got a HECK of a deal on it.
EDIT: Yikes my phone takes big pictures.

There are no LED lights made of the 993. You can put in LED bulbs in the stock housings, but it will not look right. You are stuck with either stock lens or Euro lens, that have orange sides in the back, & clear corners in the front. The front lens will need to be cut to fit the US only Bumperetts.
HID was a expensive factory option, that you can still purchase for around $3500. If you go aftermarket HID, get "slim line" ballasts, they will fit inside the headlight. You are only swapping bulbs, & stashing the ballasts. It takes about 10min to install. You will also need to install bigger fuses, when the HID engine, they will blow the stock fuse.
With a 993, you should always carry a stock DME relay, & immobilizer/remote battery. Both can leave you stranded.

The car in the pic is not a C2S, it is a narrow body carrera. It appears to have the aero B1 packagage which consists of the rear spoiler (not a turbo S) front splitters and side skirts. The wheels are not RS wheels but 996 clasic rims.
Try a new DME relay to get it started.

Some one also painted the lower rockers. Get some Bumperplugs on the front end, it will hide the license plate holes.
Hey,
Where do you get the DME relay and battery - this is good advice?
