Here's the Momo Mod.07 SE that I recently installed in my 993 to replace the Buick-y airbag wheel. This is the all leather version instead of the suede one, which is what I had in my 964 RSA. It requires less upkeep and I like the feel of it better. I dyed the yellow centering band black as well.

The smaller diameter diminishes the power steering effect quite a bit, which I felt was an added bonus.

In any event, it was a fun, relatively inexpensive and easily reversible mod.

 

What did you do about the airbag light? I have a Momo Monte Carlo with a quick disconnect that ended up tripping my bag light with and then went to a 996 TT 3 spoke in the end

 

Disabling the airbag light requires soldering a 2.8 ohm, 1/4 watt resistor across the airbag leads that plug into the clockspring.

Removing the clockspring and getting to the plug under the steering column was by far the hardest part of the install. There is some good info on Rennlist that covers everything about the Momo steering wheel swap, EXCEPT exactly where the resistor goes, but once you unplug the orange clockspring plug, just cut the orange plug off the 2 wires that go under the dash to the airbag sensor and solder the resistor to each end of the wires and wrap with electrical tape or shrink wrap. I wish I had taken photos of this procedure (since no else had done so), but I didn't think about it until after the new wheel was in place.

I wanted to do the 996 3-spoke wheel, but every decent one I found with an airbag on eBay went for $800+, which was nearly 3X what the Momo cost, even with the #7004 hub adapter and Porsche horn crest.

 

Yeah, no one on Renn has been able to get the resistor thing right. Or if they have, I've missed it. I believe the resistor is supposed to be a 2.7ohm 1 watt, but no one has posted a definate source for it. Where did you get yours and why cut the plug? why not just put ends on the resistor and utilize the plug end?
I pieced my TT wheel together and apparently got lucky, I have about $550 in the entire thing and thats for the nice stiched bag not the boxster bag.

 

I found a post from Gert Carnewal regarding the "proper" resistor, so that's the one I felt was most accurate. The 2.8 ohm 1/4 watt one works. This is a tiny little resistor, and the leads were way too skinny to stay put if inserted in the end of the plug. If I ever reinstall the airbag wheel (unlikely), it's an easy fix to solder the plug leads back where they belong.

 

where did the resistor come from? Gert?

 

I got it from an electronics supply store in Atlanta called Ack Electronics.

Luis...it is identical to the cup car wheel, except that the "SE" model is leather instead of suede, and it doesn't say "Porsche" on the right spoke. It was on eBay for less than $200 including the Porsche horn button.

The Mod.07 is dished 3". The photo makes it look a lot less dished than it is.
