Debating between 993 and 996.

First of the bat I’m not really sure if this is the right section to post it at. (and if not could the mods move it please?). I will be getting a refund from my first totaled Porsche and have been browsing around for a new one. However I seemed to have grown to like the style of the 993 a lot better then the 996. The 996 seems to be better interior and engine wise and plus probably has lot less wear and tear due to less years of existance, but the 993 just looks drop dead gorgeous. Could anyone comment on how the interior is, and if its feasible to bring it up to the modern age level at the least (and is there any space in the hood as there is in the 996)? Is it possible to drive it daily or should it be only to have fun on the weekends? And lastly does anyone know what 993 C2 or C4 non s take maximum wheel size wise? Thanks a lot for reading this hefty paragraph!

I can't wait to get another 993. I would not go bigger than 18"s on wheels. I may buy my old one back someday.

18s ? Could you tell me what offset you plan to use with the 993 (and if there any site that have a wide range of 993 rims?). Thanks!
Edit: I'm also searching around for carbon fiber interior full replacement packages (instead of buying piece by piece I'm looking for the whole set).

I had 18" 8"s in the front 10"s in the rear. I don't know the offset, but I ordered them from Wheel Enhancement specifically for my 95. I like factory wheels (But I would do some Ruf, BBS, etc)

The interiors look good with 3 spoke 996 steering wheels as upgrades. Upgraded seats help too but the oem ones aren't bad looking at all. You can add the trim ring bezels to the guages as well.

993's are gorgeous and are classics with their style. You can fit 19" wheels although you'd sacrifice some handling according to most. I went from 17" to 18" to 19" and can definitly feel a slight difference in handling.

You can daily drive one. Don't expect it to be as plush and comfortable as a 996 or 997, even at idle you feel the car shake a bit.

I have a 993 so me saying to get one over a 996 is biased. It's all up to you, the 996 will be faster but how fast do you really need to go? Plus, you alraedy had one anyway! Just do your research on the 993 and see what the issues may be. Rennlist is a great place to do your reading.

Thanks for the great replies! The 996 doesn't seem to have much more HP but I'm guessing the speed comes from less weight? Is the 993s handling a lot worse then the 996 and lastly is the 993 engine bound to break a lot faster then a 996 due to an air cooled design? Thanks again.

The 993's don't have any traction control so they can get a bit wiley especially in 2wd. The 993 engines are bulletproof if you take care of them. There are examples of them on Rennlist with 200k plus!

Awesome, thanks a lot. I'm going to try to find a dealer nearby with a 993 in stock to test it out (and having no traction control seems like a fun experience to learn from). One last question, does the 993 have ABS (I've not managed to fidn anything online yet which is leading me to that conclusion). And if not is there any kits that I can buy and have installed? Thanks!

a 996 is going to be an awesome choice for you but unless it's a turbo car, you'd want to RUN and not walk away from the car... the 993's were made with the GT-1 block and with the 996 cars, they got a really anemic setup until the later years and the updates kicked in (a 997 car). handling is tough to figure since the cars are so different. try a few but my advice is to have PSS9's installed on the 993 and FORGET the 996 unless you are going to do a Turbo'd car. You should consider a C4S for collectabilty sake. the 996 with the X73 suspension is just awesome, but if you don't get the turbo, it's sort of a lost cause. check out this one for good measure... stunning condition, one of 3 in the world in this year and color combination, factory original and unmolested: 993C4S this is the Turbo Body, suspension, Turbo-S spoilers, no Turbo Maintenance!

Do you prefer a Bo Derek in her prime or a pre-plastic surgery Demi Moore? Seriously, if you can stomach any potential SAI issues, it's 993 all the way. Then again, I am biased (98 Targa).
