We are trying to figure out how this is possible, but Al Nortons TT, with more weight loss mods is heavier on the ame scale, can anyone figure this out??



I have an 03 TT

Specs and Mods:

Sport Seats
Hollow Spokes
Sub removed
Rear Seats Removed
PSI Loud Exhaust/ no cats
Spare/Tools/ Mats Removed
Sport Cup Tires
6 Pot Calipers
1/2 tank gas
K-24's




Al Norton

Specs and Mods:

GT3 Seats
Tequipment Roll Bar
Hollow Spokes
GT2 Wing
Sub Removed
Rear Wiper Removed
Spare/Tools/Mats Removed
???? Exhaust ( Ortons of some sort)/ no cats
Rear Seats Removed
NT-01's
LWFW w/ sachs clutch
Hybrids




So to sum things up, Al's car has GT3 seats (-roll bar), LWFW, GT2 Wing, rear wiper on me yet my car weighs 3370 w/ half tank and his weighs 3410 with half tank (how is this)????????????



Assuming our cars started at the same weight:

GT2 wing - 30 lbs
LWFW - 19 lbs
GT3 seats (+roll bar) - 40 lbs
Rear Wiper - 3 lbs

So his car "should" weigh 90 lbs or so less than mine.


What gives???????

The bad thing is that I've actually been thinking about it from a reduce power understeer standpoint, but then I would have anything to argue about.

 

Brakes, discs, suspension, tires, sway bars, radios, mats, stuff in glove box, pedal mods, dirt dust etc in radiators, hose mods, air box mods

Any of this stuff different?

 

Mine may have more dirt in the air box and wheels due to a couple offroad excursions, but other than that, we are identical, even modded by the same tuner, though his car has much more power, but nothing added, just upgraded some stuff.

I guess we'll have to ask Neil if any of the go fast bits weighed more than the stock parts they replaced.

 

well the one miscalculation i noticed: roll bars typically weigh 75-90lbs. so his roll bar may be bringing his car back up to your weight just by the nature of it.

other things to consider:

1. gt3 seats don't save 40lbs if you mount them with the sliders. they save less.
2. windshield washer fluid
3. look at his option codes, decode and go from there. (i.e. does he have some heavy options?)

If it's a standard car or truck scale that you guys are using, than it's more than likely due to the massively inaccurate tolerances they provide.

Case in point: I can drive my car onto a calibrated truck scale, get my weight, drive off....and then without changing a thing, immediately drive back on and my weight will change by 75 lbs. I've seen it first hand.

If you guys are using calibrated corner-balance scales to check your weight (the only ones I trust), then it's definitely a mystery.

I can swear I heard 40 or so lbs. Well in that case it makes sense.

Less than 40 lbs for GT3 seats, well I'm sure glad I found that out now, I'm getting some different ones then.


Our options are the same, nothing that would add weigt, but with your assessments of the GT3 seats and rollbar, it makes perfect sense.

 

These are calibrated corner scales used by NASA at their track days.

 

My Tequipment bar only weighs 27 lbs.

 

there cant be that many differences in weight for the same thing. the only way it can be different is with the cross brace.


Okay, now we are back to the dillemma.

Where did he get 70-90 lbs from? I'm sure I said roll bar, not full roll cage.

 

Ya, I agree. With the cross-brace, it only weighs 3-5 lbs more.

 

Don't forget, Al's car is also sunroof delete.....
