After 10 months of reseaching, Finally....
I got myself a 2005 996 turbo S last Thursday night. Ironically, it was not from any porsche dealers that I went to (Rector, Carlsen, Oakland), it was from Mercedes of San Francisco. Although I really want to get a CPO car , all the P dealers seems to be "doing a me a favor" by taking my CL500 as a trade-in. When I browsed thru Autotrader last week and saw this beautiful turbo S I just had to jump on it. I originally wanted a 6 speed sports car (z06, skyline GTR, 997 C4s cab,996 GT3, used 997 tt, Audi RS4, Mit. EVo 9 or 10 were all on my list) I even ordered a 2008 victory red Z06 and cancelled the order 3 weeks ago just 1 week before it came in . Ok to cut the story short, I went into MBZ SF after work at 6, saw the turbo S check all the body panels, wheels, inside and outside all seems to be perfect and was told the car was traded in for a CLK black series and was assured that it was in excellent condition and no accident records. By instinct, I just dropped my CL and drove home with it. Yes , you are right no PPI ( I really don't reccomend it and I know all my 6 speed brothers are going to yell at me). Any way, on Monday I drove it down to Rector at 2 pm and the service advisor seems nice enough to take my car (without any appointment) and he recommened me to do the yearly maintenance ($250) instead of the Post purchase inspection.
Luckily the car checked out all excellent with 85% left on brakes and almost
98% left on the tires. And 0 type II over rev. The only thing he recommed me to do is to change the side marker to white which I did happily.
By the way, thank you all for the amount of knowlege on this board!!

Thank you all!!
I think I will keep the car stock for now. Oh well...maybe just a ECU flash from Sharkerk in a few months.
I do have a lot of patience, I should have changed the title to "after 25 years, finally my 2nd porsche". (My first one was a 78 or 79 928 during my school years in the 80's.)
IMO, the tip is quite responsive but I dont think it is quicker than a manual. The amount of torque will make up for it unless you are drag racing. The tip. starts on 2nd gear so sometimes I have to downshift to start at 1st gear (in stop and go traffic it is not a bad thing at all starting at 2nd). Several times I have pushed the toggle switches wrong (I thought they were the volume control buttons as were on my MBZ). And I wish I could shift thru the gear lever too instead of just the steering wheel switches.

+1, do you mind if I can get detailed info about your car?
I am in the market for 996TT and I am just curious about mileage and price you paid.
any interior shots?

The turbo S was oringally listed for $89990. A little bit of background, my Cl500 was up for major service and brakes overhaul, as I expected they take the trade in at wholesale price which is $26000
but I figure the service for the CL will cost me around $3-4k (it has 40000 miles on it with all options).
Today they listed the car for $44000 on their site.
About the turbo, it has 24500 miles on it and I got it for $86000. I didnt really lowball them, I think if I try harder I might get another $1-2k off.
And the interior is gray but I prefer black instead but I am starting to get used to it. And it came with macintosh amplifier and pioneer 6 disc changer. You can see I am just trying to justified my trade here, do you guys think I got a good or fair deal?
I figure a 2002 996tt is worth around $65k , a 2003 x50 around $70k so a 2005 tt S with ceramic brakes , x50 power kit , S emblems and the macintosh amplifier is quite reasonalbe for $16000 more. But then it is just $20-25K away from a used 997 tt.
I will try to take some interior shots later, the interior is not 100% perfect it has some regular usage wear on the door panel and seats (seems like porsche interior leather is not as thick or as durable as MBZ ones.)

That is a pretty good deal.
I bought mine for more (but with less miles, and it is a stage 4 evoms)
If I saw this deal, I would have bought it.
I will be going over to the Speed Gallery to get upgraded turbos
