I have been looking for an 01-03 TT for a little while now, don't understand how I never came across this great forum! Man I read a lot last night!
I went to see my third prospect today, an 03 certified Turbo in Dallas, a little out of my reach for now. It did make me wonder about something, if I found a car that wasn't from a Porsche dealer, is it still possible to take a car there, have it inspected, and if up to muster certified for the Porsche warrenty? From what I have read here the aftermarket warrenties can be worthless, I kind of want a 2 year piece of mind on this my first decent set of wheels!
Cheers..

I am trying to go for a stock TT or X50 and leave mods for down the road and only a maybe. I do want to know about taking the car to the track.. What is there available near to Houston for tracks and track days open to the public?
i just bought a 03 turbo x50 with an aftermarket warranty...i'm told i can use the warranty at any certified porsche mechanic (that includes dealers)..for the piece of mind, i think it is well worth it and hopefully i'll never have to find out how 'worthless' it is. :P

As should be clear, Hewston is happening.

Welcome! Aftermarket warranties will cover issues at their discretion. If they choose to not cover an issue then you should be able to get a full refund. Pretty useless IMHO. CPO is great but only for cars that are not out of their original warranty period. Realize the 996TT is very reliable with very few bugs so don't be afraid to get a car with no warranty- I did 3 1/2 years ago and do not regret it.
Texas World Speedway (TWS) in College Station has a nice road course that uses a portion of an oval track that has a banked turn. There are elevation changes on the back half and some classic turns. It is a blast but you do not want to spin off track there. http://www.texasworldspeedway.com/
Motorsports Ranch Houston (MSR) is about an hour south of downtown on 288. It is also a great rack and is very different from TWS. There is much less of an issue spinning off track there as there is nothing to hit on 95% of the course. http://www.msrhouston.com/

Thanks for those links and the advice on the warranties.
Fingers crossed the right car shows up sooner than later. The test drives I have made are like rubbing it in now.
