We run slipper clutches in our chasis Drag cars, they're a completely different animal to setup and get to work properly, and require quite a bit of maintenance.
There is definitely chatter, definitely noise. It's not as bad as other cars I've heard with the engine/ clutch being in the back compared to front, but if you want a quiet car this isn't going to work for you. I bumped the radio up 1-2 clicks and don't notice it anymore.
Not to harp on the subject again... I hope it works... but for drag racing you need a dry metal clutch... hence, eddie bellow and evoms... both whom seem to have a decent amount of drag racing use a non carbon clutch... and both use company... I have been pulling my teeth out trying to get my ATS cabon to hold 100% so I can run a mid 9 sec pass... so close yet so far away...
I have been advised to put a dry clutch and call it a day.

I'm sure it will work, and sure it will hold whatever power you want to put through it, and if it doesn't hold the power, Tilton also offers a quad disk version of the clutch pack but I don't any 996's will be in need of that for some time. I don't intend on going out there and setting records, but I do want a car that will 60 foot every time with no worries. I think in your situation you should be trying to see the light on this one, rather than seeing the dark. From what I've read you've changed tuners and setups more times than anyone else on this forum, so I can understand why you would be quick to jump against this, I'm just confident that it will work, if it doesn't, you can bet that Tilton will engineer something that will.
I changed tuners because it took me that long to find him ... looks like you got lucky...
No I do not look at the dark side... I just do not believe everything they all say... and that is from my experience with all the tuners that I worked with... Im actually doing it... pushing my car to the edge..... For you application it will be overkill... but thats Ok... at least it will work.
For my application it may take a special version...
Don't get me wrong... Im not against anyone here... I just know too much for my own good... and that gets me in trouble sometimes...
good luck and wish you the best,
Mark

Too much gets put into the badge on the front of the car, great parts are great parts, it's just a matter of making them work in your application.
I agree...
Don/'t get me wrong mine is 99% fine... its the 1% that Im looking for and I may not be able to get it... but then Im at 800+ rwhp and that starts to make a huge difference...

Markski,
Come to TX2K8 and see what works and what doesnt.
There will be no shortage of Horsepower there (In ANY make of automobile)!
Perfect testing scenario: 1/4 mile, 60-130, etc, etc.

A nice benefit to this clutch that may or may not have been mentioned as well is the weight savings. If someone is purchasing it for straight line use only or wanted to convert to RWD for other reasons, they could easily see a 150-175lb weight drop, just by installing this clutch and removing the actuator setup, as well as the front differential and corresponding parts. I've seen people spend 5-6k on wheels to save 15lbs, this clutch saves over 30 in direct rotational mass alone.
Plan is still on to bring this car to TX, I'm not sure if we'll have the fuel system / intercoolers done by then but regardless the car will be making in the mid 500 range and have this clutch installed.
