Is every GIAC chip/program the same (for a base car?)

Hi all. Do all chip tuners sell the same programming for their
stage I packages, or do they all start from a blank memory and
make their own programs, or do they all start with the same
improved tuning program, and some or all of them tweak it some
more?

I have no clue but I like the question.

My guess is that they reverse engineer the code to determine where the code controls the things they want to change and then tune to determine their changes.

Let's see what the people who really know say.

Good question Joe. Every Stage 1 program is different. As a GIAC dealer we make a program that is specific to your car in regards to VIN #, Immobilizer etc. In terms of performance changes, we can offer you more than 5 different programs depending on your geographic location (fuel quality and climate), other modifications made to the car, stock or raised rev limit, high boost etc. Many years of tuning and testing allows us to offer a variety of programs depending your specific requirements. Hope this helps.

Todd,

Do different GIAC affiliated companies operate differently than you just posted above? The reason I ask this question is because of an earlier personal experience I encountered. In my early tuning quests I visited at GIAC (and still GIAC) company. I inquired about them using the GIAC chip on my car. They said they could not do it as they only work with "canned" parts with their "canned" chip.

The GIAC affiliated companies operate independently. Not all dealers are interested in "1 off" projects. If you came to EVO in the beginning I would have assessed the scope of the project and most likely would have taken the project on. I would have worked with Garrett at GIAC to build custom programs to achieve your final goal.

Custom tuning is not an easy tasks as you know. There are some projects that take months to complete 1 program that will work perfect in every way. We cannot tune every car with every upgrade variation. This way of tuning would be very inefficient for our business. This is the reason that we build staged packages so the end user can pick their power level and build their car all at once or over time in stages.

The term "canned" minimizes what we offer our customers. All of our programs are custom for the other components that are included in the tuning packages. As explained in the above paragraph, it would be nearly impossible to tune every car for every different variation of exhaust, turbos, injectors, air intakes, etc, etc. When we build a motor package, each component is properly sized, flowed and tuned to work perfect as a complete kit. With all of the recent turbocharger upgrades that have surfaced, it makes my job impossible to have custom tuned software that will work with each one.

Our stage 4GT was built to offer our customers something different to the typical KKK-24 turbo package. We chose to build a properly sized Garrett based turbocharger that would bolt on and could maximize the output from a relatively stock motor. We were successful in building 640 hp / 670 tq on pump fuel with stock injectors. The final tuning system can be bolted on in 1 day and would scare the sh#! out of most drivers.

Hope this helps
