If it was mine, I would be dreading what the computer said as far as over reving. Not saying that happened here, but if it was mine, it probably would have a couple of those. Sometimes I just don't pay attention.

I wonder what if any grief Porsche would give on a blown CGT motor if there was a couple of over revs on the computer, but it was a questionable call as to cause of blown motor.

I think if it is the case then for PR purposes it would be in Porsche's best interest to replace the engine free of charge!

I am thinking the same thing since it is a new car and these guys or possibly gals are plopping down $ 400 large. Keep bad publicity at bay also, but damn those engines are expensive.

not nearly as expensive as not being able to sell the next 1350 of them. if it's true, it's a no brainer for porsche

Yep, your right. Not good to start out with not only a blown motor, but someone creating a big stink about it because Porsche did not take care of it (even if he was in the wrong or abused it).

Unless the guy drove it with no oil or didn't upshift while redlining it for 30 seconds I don't think you can call it abuse otherwise. That car was not built to be driven like a school bus. Porsche wants that car to be driven hard and that's why people buy it!

Seems like I heard someone getting grief over a blown turbo motor because there were two or three instances of over revs recorded. I also know that BMW has denied a warranty claim on the M3 because the computer logged an over rev.

Yeah ... how can they say you over revved when there is a rev limiter? If the rev limiter isn't doing it's job properly (which is to prevent damage to the motor) then it's Porsche's fault not the drivers. No??

MetalSolid is infamous around these parts
If you remember, not too long ago at it's launch a Carrera GT had it's engine over-revved and blown by a "motor journalist".

Edit: A rev-limiter won't help if some idiot drops down to 1st at 100mph.

Exceeding redline is usually caused by a missed shift when down shifting...even if you are not on the gas, shifting down to 2nd when you intended 3rd at 90 mph (just an example), the rpms can exceed the readline and the rev limiter will have no effect...blown engine...(extreme engine braking)
