I wanna do some tracking In So. Cali

I am a stone cold rookie in tracking so please sorry for newbie like request.

I want to start tracking in So. Cali area. Question should I get some sort of lessons first? And who would you recommend in Riverside, OC area? Do you have a link to the schools? Where is a good place where I can practice my skills on my own? Meaning a open track, if that really does exist here.

Thanks in advanced,
Phil

Jojomon -

Sign up for a PCA school at the closest track to you. You'll get instruction, track time, meet a lot of nice folks many of whom have similar cars, and basically have a great time.

Check the track web site for a schedule, and also check your local PCA chapter for their track event schedule.

Have fun!

Jon

also look at SCCA and NASA both of these sanctioning bodies have many track days, with instruction for beginers as well as ride alongs with instructors.

Come down to the shop sometime we can give you some advice as well as help set the car up if needed.

We do events with other organizations and often do a 4-6 track events of our own.

Feel free to stop by or give me a call anytime.

Give GMG a call for sure....they are a class act all the way and while I haven't done one of their track days YET....I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them!

Jojomon,

Tracking your Porsche, well that is our specialty. We are located in Santa Ana, conveniently across the street from Porsche Motorsports North America, which helps our Motorsport Program quite a bit. The trickle down theory definately plays a part when tuning street cars for track days, and we have dozens of clients who look to us to prepare their cars for our track days or other schools as well.

Stop by anytime and ask for myself or Fabryce.

Be careful, it can be addictive!!

Just look at how many Cup cars we have in the shop!!

Come and join the PCA and every month we have track events. Several are at Eltoro Base and are a lot of fun. They have trained drivers to assist, by ask the GMG boy to give you a few tips on driving they are always there and sponsor several events. I can also give you a few tracking tips as well.

I would say to contact POC or PCA about track days and club events.

Additionally, I like to go to Buttonwillow for open track day. Friday is normally open to the public (about $250 for the day). All you need is a helmet. The track is rarely crowded so you can just learn at your leisure. Buttonwillow is a HUGE track, so even if 4-5 cars are on it at the same time you will probably never see each other. They have about 25 different track configs, and each one has a little of everything.

I would NOT recommend going to Willow Springs unless you go with a club or a DE day. They require fuel cells, roll bars, etc. also, they track has a few spots that can be really dangerous. Even the small track "the Streets" is a little intimidating for a newb.

Besides the PCA events, you might want to check out BMW CCA events as they run some great Driver Education events over at Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, and California Speedway. Once you get a handful of events under your belt and get comfy with the car out on the track, you can go to Redline or Speed Venture track days.
