Lowering the 996tt help request.

Wanting to lower my 05 996tts cab mostly for the cool look. I won't track this car and have taken it to the 1/4 mile drag once but thats all. Local mechanic says he would go with the H&R springs around $300 plus labor and I can expect a 3/4 to 1 inch drop. Want to do the same to my 03 996tt but this car I will want to track maybe 6-12 times per year once some of these local tracks open and I will also take this car to the drag strip. The 03 996tt I plan to eventually get a gt650 kit no later than this year and its my daily driver. Would the springs be enough on this car or should I consider a more involved package based on my use? Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

For the 03 go with the JIC coilovers, for the 05 I think the H&R's will be sufficient for your needs..

I don't know...for the cab...I think you still want it to handle well. Not sure the H&R are enough for the extra cab weight. Any how...I went with FVD PSS9 in my cab and have been happy.

I believe h&r have heavier springs for the cab.

I'm running H&R's and 15mm spacers front and rear. Car looks AWESOME.
I'd rather have coilovers, but this is fine for now.

Thx for the feedback!

Thanks guys, I'll check into the heavier H&R springs for the cab and run the coilovers by my mechanic to get pricing for the coupe. Now I must prepare myself for my deadly driveway up to garage. After looking at most of the pcars on this forum I feel like I'm cruising in a 4x4, so the mods contunue.

Thanks Speedy996tt, what difference can I expect from Jic coilovers than just the H&R springs? How much money are we talking?

wross996tt thanks, what difference would I expect in cost of fvd pss9's and performance over just the H&R springs?

With coils you can expect a MUCH better ride quality to go along with the lowered stance. I put h and r springs only on my last two bmw's and while h and r gives a very aggressive drop (looks awesome) the ride quality over time degraded to the point that i wished i never did it . . . I've JIC coils on my 996 now and the ride quality is simply awesome and that's WITH the perfect drop . . . springs alone are the cheap way to get the cosmetics done right but u'll pay later in ride quality i think - I've never put h and r's on a porsche however - anyone have similar experiences?

As stated above the difference is significant in terms of ride and handling...the H&Rs are fine for look, but they don't improve the ride.
