BMC Filter

The BMC is not quite rectangular. It has a section, one of the corners that is a different shape. If I install in the stock air filter box, which way does it go into the stock box? Thanks.

The TT one is rectangular. I'm not too sure what your describing but and this is just a guess you might have one for a NA 996, not the TT.Post a pic and that will clear everything up.The veins should be facing the motor.

Why the preference for BMC over K&N? I'm in the market for a panel filter and I'd love to know what the advantages are.

My tuner recommended it...don't here near the number of complaints (or any) related to MAF (whether they are true or not).

Given that you're the statman, in your opinion, can that be due to the disproportionate market penetration of BMC vs. K&N? In any event, if Kevin likes it over K&N, that's a good enough endorsement for me.

Is the MAF exposed when the filter is changed? Should MAF be cleaned if you are replacing the filter, or only if you believe it might be causing a problem? How do you clean it? Also do you agree that the filter should be rinsed with hot water and then allowed to dry before install to remove excess oil?

Answers or links welcome, Thanks

1. NO
2. I'm not a big fan of MAF cleaning, however many are. I would suggest cleaning the MAF after running a little with the new filter.
MAF thread
3. clean...soak for a couple of minutes in some dish soap/water solution, rinse, air dry
