Changing a 996 turbo color
Changing a 996 turbo color
Would this be a crime to change the color of a 996 turbo. I have a black one and i am tired of that color and tired of washing it. Trying to sell the car but looks like it doesn't work, i would buy an other one but a different color. If i can't sell mine i am thinking about changing its color.
I don't know which color i would prefer, i really the yellow Porsches, i also like charcoal grey, maybe silver but damn i am done with black...
Would that be considered a crime to change the color on such a car? would that completly kill the resell value of the car?

I think unless they took apart the whole car and sprayed the entire body and then put the car back together, you would take a hit in depreciation.
Used to be silver was the new black and then white became the new silver but I think soon black will be the new white. You should try to find a good detailer who can bring back the deep black color.
Have you thought about a flat black?

hahaha 996TurboOnMaui I just came off a black car and am driving the seal grey 996tt and sometimes I feel the same way, but i have a feeling if i had black I would be begging for a seal grey as it was the case before I got this car.....like you said "the grass is always greener" good thing the cars drive so well I dont even think about the color lol.
pumalex---- send me some pics and specs maybe we can trade you never know
also I think jrgatfh if i remember correctly went from a Seal Grey to a GT3RS orange and it turned out great, maybe he will chime in or you can check some of his threads to find pics.

Some people will tell u not too some people will tell you its fine, I did it and I'm happy I did it, although I would never paint the car a non-Porsche color but rather a color that was not offered on a particular model. As stated before, I wouldn't do it unless it was done right, We used the same paint used from the factory and the doors, hood, decklid, rocker panels, glass and interior were off the car when painted, there are no tape lines what so ever. The results are incredible. As long as you paint it a Porsche color that was not offered on our particular cars you'll be fine with your resale value, I had people offering more money just because they wanted my color turbo so badly. Here are some pictures...

I think the real question is whether you plan on keeping the car long term or not. If you are going to sell it soon and upgrade models, keep it the stock color. If you are planning on keeping the car long term, then re-sale value doesn't matter and you are free to paint as you please.
One thought about disassembling the car and repainting it however is the risk of body creaks/ groans and squeeks and of course ill- fitting panels.
That orange/ flat black Turbo however was bad *** especially with the orange interior accents...!

Its your car do what you like, it will hurt resale and believe me i know how you feel. I am looking for a different color TT, I am on my third silver 996 and I FN hate it. Sorry I don't want black
. I'm looking for a red or white, and I will find one, I am having a hard time finding something that is as clean as my car. If you paint it, remember it will cost you at least 7 K to paint it right, in your case it might be worth to trade it in to a dealer.

I'll try to post up some before shots later, as long as you have a good shop do it, it's no problem, you have to realise that even though most of us love our cars and respect them for what they are most good body shops dont even care what type of car it is, they just take it apart paint it and put it back together again like a machine and the good shops know what they are doing and you wont have any problems. The shop I used is very good, they also do more porsches than any other car, and the owner is a good friend of mine. Its not a hard thing to do its actually quite easy if you know what you are doing.
hmm well i will certainly think about.
I am sorry, i can't trade with any of you guys, i am in Canada, way too much hassle to import a car and taxes and fees.
That orange car certainly do look incredible. I do like white also, that might be the way i would go.
Flat black, what kind of maintenance is necessary on such a color? I really like the look but is it harder to keep it clean than a normal black?

Just try and sell it because a paint job done right will cost you upwards of $10-15K. Might as well sell the 996 and put it into another 996 and mod it or step up to a 997. MHO.
