The only clues I can give is that it was a tuned V8, was in the UK, with converted RHS drive and it had four round red tail lights - two per side - couldnt see any make or model details on the back. Was a coupe. A long shot but....

oh second thoughts it definitely didnt say Corvette on the back, and it was more saloon like in body shape...any more ideas?

 

So.. now you can tell the results... There are many generation of Corvettes (also know as "Vette"). The one that scares most 996TT members in here are the C6 (era) Z06 (model). The C6z06 has a little side grill emblem that look like this (located on the fron fender).

BTW, there is another C6 model to come wich is way faster that the Z06, should be named ZR1.. (correct me if I am wrong..)

 

think it looked more like a Shelby Mustang...but had round tail lights...any ideas?

It was a very rare Ford Shelby Pinto

 

Maybe it wasn't American? Could be a Nissan Skyline.

Well didnt lose exactly as there was too much traffic to pass him but I gained on him and hung on his tail until he turned off in a different direction.
The lights were the same size and side by side, as in

 

it had to have been a vette. what color was it?

 

Nope. Lights were the same size and i'd recognise a Skyline anywhere.
