Gallardo "kill"...Not in my TT though!

You'll love this one...I'm driving home from work today and I spot a yellow Gallardo turning onto the road I'm on. I wait for him and as he pulls next to me I egg him on big time. I hear the revs blippling as he downshifts 2 gears (eGear tranny). I nail it and pull slightly and maintain a 2 car lead as we approach a light to make a left. We went from around 50 - 100. At the light, on the opposite side of the road is a Davie cop who's there everyday waiting for red-light-runners. My V1 is going K-band nuts! There is a F150 in front followed by me and Mr. lambo. He doesn't see the cop as we turn. Just as we complete the turn, he nails the throttle and passes me and the F150. Cop does nothing. 1/4 mile or so down the road (out of cop's sight) I pass the F150 and get on the Lambo's rear. More downshift blips...I am on this guys *** and he can't shake me. My left hand turn comes up and he waves goodbye. It was fun doing this in my E55 sedan! I wish I was in my 911TT!!!!!!

If you were going straight and your tt is stock, the E55 is faster.

Now you need to add a Kill Notch on the MB door. Not driving the Turbo...................whats the matter don't want to put any miles on your car? Or are you waiting for some mods?

You think the E55 is faster than the turbo(stock) in a straight line? No chance, not close imo. My buddy has an E55 and I regularly roasted him in my stock turbo

Uh, E55 is not faster than a stock turbo. Let me clarify - NO WAY.

Since an E55 is press and go it's fairly easy to have consistant sprints. Even though many of us fancy ourselves good or great drivers, ripping off perfectly executed shifts, especially from a dead stop, is much harder. Even though the absolute #'s favor a stock Turbo, i'd put my money on the E55 in 0-60 and close in the 1/4. From a rolling start the advantage is much less. If you want to really change the tide, then find a bend for the Porsche. One of my favorite things is to surprise someone who tries to out-muscle me and doesn't realize what the M5 is capable of. This is especially true on parkway entrance ramps when someone will literally speed up to block you from merging or when a left lane hog doesn't move right and then you move right to pass and he speeds up. It's probably a NY thing and maybe LA. Unrelated, but i test drove a 2004 S55 and was terribly disappointed. I understand the E55 is much better and will have a look.

Only did it once, 40 to about 120 but the E55 pulled pretty easily. Could have been a bad driver but you guys (shank and Lou) say the tt wins?

Sorry guys...I have both cars and the E55 is without question quicker in a straight line than a STOCK TT. The only exception is from a dead stop or at very low speeds. The E55 has no low speed traction since it has 516lbs/ft of torque and skinny rear tires. I am referring to the W211 E55 (2003+).

Have you run them side by side, or are you just going by the seat of the pants feel?

I did race a 996TT in my E55 from around 60-120 and was steadily pulling until I let off. The E55 has a .27 Cd and tons of power. The best 0-60 time I have seen is 4.3 and the 1/4 in the lower 12s. This is indicative of low traction that is made up for further down the line. Nearly 500hp gives it a top-end advantage over a stock 996TT. The big V8 also "feels" more powerful (which it is). Just don't attempt a turn....

A good driver behind a stock Turbo should not loose to an E55. If the Turbo does loose then there is something wrong with the car or the driver.

Coming from an E55 owner, I'd have to say a stock turbo has the 0-60 edge.

I also own both. If the 6-speed TT is in the correct gear and well driven it will beat the e55 at any speed. I would venture to say a stock tiptronic turbo would beat the e55 under any conditions (yes I have driven a tip extensively). Gear selection makes a big difference. Just look at your passengers under hard acceleration in either car; the e55 is quick, but it doesn't give passengers that "just crapped in their pants" look like a TT does (even stock)
