996TT Rear Spoiler Failure

Has anyone had the hydraulic cylinders fail on the rear spoiler? Mine are leaking oil and I get an error message on the dash. They look easy to replace but they are about $350 a side, but why should that be a surprise?

This is a common problem. You might think of converting to a fixed wing. It's lighter, looks better and you won't have to worry about the hydraulics failing again.

If you need replacement hydraulics, see the thread below in the classifieds. The member's selling the entire decklid including the wing and hydraulics painted seal grey for $600.

Thank you Duane996TT and 996TurboOnMaui. I appreciate your input. I may just go the fixed wing approach. Regards.

Saint Ari- The $350 a side was parts only, with labor it was $1,100;so, your "stealer" was in the ballpark.

Rgagliano, sorry to hear. I am curious, did you have the stock wing blade or an after market one?

Porsche is actually almost requiring the dealers to replace the entire unit (pump, hoses, rams) - closer to 2K when you add it up. Their reasoning? Who knows?

Yea, that's right. Mine failed a year ago under warranty and they replaced the entire unit.

Man, welcome to the club. I got a techart rear spoiler that raises.., and I think the extra weight may have caused the problem. But I like my spoiler and I like when its in the up position. So I say fix it.. I payed about $800 w/ labor from a porsche tuner in my area.
