Simple and Easy 996 TT OEM SEAT Mod
for me this is the difference between keeping the car for the next 5 years or not, I am 6`6 by the way and about 225 lbs, I remain amazed by the improvement and additional connectivity with the car it gives

I did this as well to my stock "standard" seats and used some foam i found in the garage. I think its old mattress foam. It is an improvement for sure and i like the better side support. On the other hand, i still think these seats suck and if i was going to keep the car forever, i'd upgrade. Great post and thanks!
you are pretty sharp; I really miss the siting inside the car/between the fenders feel of the 911; I hate sitting on the seat; I realize that Stuttgart needed to put the CPU somewhere but why under the drivers seat?! I had posted a seat lowering question in Rennlist and recv'd a brilliant suggestion to lower the car.... You need to feel the car with your rear end down and your back straight to drive well
Thanks for the sentiment, but no need need to apologize.
it was my decision to try it. Now I feel a poke in my spine all the time. It's fun doing projects. Sucks having to undo them.

Ari -- The sports seats have much larger side bolsters than the standard seats -- so you already have much better lateral support in stock configuration. How thick was your stock foam? Mine was at least and inch and a half thick lower down. Maybe the sport seats have thinner OEM foam?
If you are not feeling any improvement, plus you are feeling the frame and cross bars, I would go back to stock. Sorry you spent time on this mod and came away empty handed for your troubles. It took me a bit of time to make my seat comfortable for me.

Ari you took out the metal ringlets right ? fwiw as I have no foam at all you can also change the location of all the little air bags which blow up for seat support, they are on a vertical rack
i know this is a very old theread but i expect a lot of members have never seen it and it seems to be well worth the bump
can anyone who did this mod comment on whether they are still happy with it ?

I hated it and took it out. Even had a professional upholstery shop make me a thinner foam insert. A few pressure points where the springs were digging into my back made this mod totally painful and not worth it.

Going to give this a try, I hate my standard seats feels like sofa less supportive than my “normal” commute car.
Seeing this is old, any other mods known? Was going to do buckets but like option of rear seats with standard.

I know this is a VERY old thread, but I can’t get my center seat cushion to disengage the three white tabs from the metal cross bar. If I put any more upward force something is going to break!
when I lift up on the cushion, the tabs barely move from the cross bar. I tried pushing a screwdriver downward on the crossbar, per the workshop manual, but it barely moves. It looks like there is a piece of styrofoam blocking the tabs from clearing the crossbar.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
