Looking to buy a 996 turbo

Hi,

I am in the market for a 996 turbo so any advice would be greatly appreciated I am open to both convertible or coupe.

I was looking to couple in DC/MD/VA and found only one on craigslist, not the best way to look for a 996 but again just starting so I will be shopping around.

Here is one of them:

My friend has 5 turbo P cars and is selling one of them. 2001 white with HRE competition rims and new cup tires. it dynoed 650 rwhp at 1.5 bars. over $40K in tuning mods and only one custom tuned car in the country with custom k24/20g turbos.custom tuned and built by Todd Knighton of Protomotive. Ran 139 mph at the 1/4 strip -10.2 sec .
16K miles no paint work and its mint.
$82K I drove and even raced it against it.
Anyone that wants to jump in blow away anything in its path this is the car.

kilrgt ^^^ +1000!! Memo, make a list of what you absolutely must have on the car. Then a list of nice options you wouldn't mind. Then look around LOTS, and GET A PPI. You will quite likely find the exact car you're after at a price you're good with. Warranty is nice, but some of the threads lately make me wonder about the true peace of mind you'd get. Craigslist? I suppose, but call the dealers, including the ones on ebay and autotrader. You'll find the right one, just don't be afraid to travel to get it.

And stop hanging out here, you'll end up modifying whatever car you end up with. Never mind, you're here already. Well then, save yourself a couple of thou for those mods that will be inevitable......even if they're only starting with clear sides, it'll progress to extra wheels, coilovers, flash, exhaust, more flash, bigger turbos.......you get the idea. .

Unless the perfect one for you is one that's already done like any number of the ones on here.

Good luck in your search.

Yup 100% agreed. I *think* I said that already tho...... "Unless the perfect one for you is one that's already done like any number of the ones on here. "

I only wish I spent more time on this forum BEFORE I bought my car rather than after.

Thanks everyone for the warm responses. I just started looking around but once I find the right car, I would probably buy it right away. Also this will be my first Porsche if I do buy it so I am very excited about it.

I am not really looking for a very modded one as I want something I can drive daily but also I don't consider wheels, coilovers and exhaust as mods so they will go on the car pretty quick hehe

I will try to look at some more cars locally. My track car is a modded evo so I am also considering a convertible one

if you are looking at the porsche for an additional track car, i would steer shy of fhe cabriolet. the coupe makes for a better handling car on the track. IMO. good luck looking, the hunt is half the fun.

yup, that's what i told my wife when i bought my stock turbo a few years ago. Once you make one mod....its all over my friend. its a disease that can't be stopped. I agree with Markski and would buy something tastefully modded and save huge $$$. If I could do it over, that's exactly what i'd do.
