Boost under braking.

I don't know what you call this, but recently I have been playing around with braking the car and giving it gas in order to build boost.

Having read here that boost greater than 1.0BAR is past the usable range for k16s, why am I seeing 1.2BAR? Is this bad for the car in any way.

The response is instant using this technik BTW...

It's not a spike. It's a steady 1.2 BAR. Under normal load, I see 1.0 in 3rd and 1.1 spikes and a steady 1.0 in 4 and 5th. I think the wastegates are good.

It's called brake boosting and it takes some skill. The engine will build more boost under a load. Notice how the boost guage will stay at zero when you are in neutral, no matter how high your rev it? Brake boosting is a way to get a leap on your competitor when racing but it is not good on brake pads obviously, and is probably stressful to all parts of the drivetrain (but so is racing, right? ).

On cars with big upgrades you can get boost in neutral.we have one in the W/S that gets .3 bar when pliping the throttle.

Thanks Chris.

Does anyone think this is damaging the turbo's or anything else engine wise?

It increases drivetrain and engine load which is designed to handle it, but will increase wear just like if you pulled a loaded trailer up a hill. At least it is just for a brief period of time. I suspect that the brake pads and clutch are going to bear the most wear of anything.

Brake boosting is only really useful when running one BIG turbo like the Supra guys. It won't help a stage 2 TT w/ the K 16's.

Good point, they spoolup pretty quick. Theoretically it could help if starting in a high gear (to avoid an upshift for example).

It'll help when racing against Sean and his "fair starts" :P. Sean, it seems to me to be much more responsive than a normal start. The response is "V8" instant.

See I always said Sean gets the jump then trys to say the other person jumps!!!
Now imagine how bad the results of previous races would have been with fair starts.
