Is europipe worth the money?
mklock: Obviously, there is room for disagreement here. There doesn't have to be just one great exhaust. The Europipe is a good product, but, in my opinion, as well as that of others on this board, so is the Fabspeed. Not everyone finds the sound of the Fabspeed "irritating." If you prefer the Europipe, buy it! To deem it superior is just as silly as suggesting that the Fabspeed is inferior because you or someone else finds it offensive to your ear. Bottom line, they both have advantages and disadvantages. Buy what YOU like. BUT keep an open mind.
mklock: Point taken. I agree with you in the sense that I understand the difficulty of picking a system. In my own case, I spent about a year looking at different systems including Ruf, Techart, Europipe, FVD, Fabspeed and several others including modifying the stock system in a way similar to the Ruf system. I listened to several systems, contacted manufacturers (including stopping at Ruf while in Germany), read everything I could find including Stephen's excellent test. In the end I picked the Fabspeed SuperSport because, in my opinion, supported by Sol Snyderman of Perfect Power in Chicago, whose opinion I respect and trust, it worked best with the performance modifications I was making to my 2002 X50. I also liked its design and construction; its low weight; its cost; and, yes, its sound. The system just plain works for me. I agree with those who say its loud; after all, its called the "loud" Fabspeed system. Also, with miles, I've found that the system seems to be mellowing. But, don't get me wrong, it's loud, but I like it. Each to his own. But mklock, no offense taken and none intended. Hey, we don't need these silly cars; we buy them for fun, right? In that spirit, if we're going to re-engineer them (like we can really do a better job than Porsche) then we should spend our money on what turns us on.

This topic keeps coming up, again and again. If the issue isn't performance, then keep the stock exhaust. How a given exhaust system sounds is a very individual matter; after all "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Performance, on the other hand, can be quantified. And it is on that basis that the Fabspeed performs. It is among the best performing systems, ESPECIALLY when price is considered.

I think you might have misunderstood my point.
I was saying that no one is saying that the Fabspeed does not make the power. I think the point of this tread is the resonance and drone that is in the Fabspeed that some people can't take.
apparently the EP has resonance as well...

So, now where are we? Both exhausts have some level of resonance, one is lighter, makes as much if not more power and costs half as much.
Is the EP worth the money? Possibly, but not based on any objective criteria.

Drone??? Minimal at best and only within a very small rpm range. Buy the FabSpeed...you obviously are looking for reasons not to buy the EP...Those who have bought the EP probably wouldn't change their decision if they could do it all over again...

like i said before, i have never even heard the EP. However, it definitely is not unquestionably worth the money over the Fabspeed. It may be for some, it may not be for others. It comes down to taste because it surely is not worth double the price based on objective factors. That is all i am saying.

I didn't mean to start a war between fabspeed and europipe. If money is not a factor (i dont think a few grand would make many go broke on this board), I think the europipe is a clear winner. Offroadr35, yes both exhausts do have some resonance but it is clear that the europipe had hardly any resonance if any. Most people who have it claim no resonance and you would really have to listen to hear it. It is clear the fabspeed is capable of creating migraine headaches! They both have completly different sounds and both have the same performance gains so it simply comes down to the money issue and sound preference. I purchased europipe because it is a safer bet. I do not want to spend $2.5k on a fabspeed and then sell it cause of the drone. I would rather spend double the money and buy something that has had only positive reviews.

If you want to minimize resonance, use the Fabspeed straight pipes! Of course it is just a bit louder that way. But hey, didn't someone say something about there being no free lunch?!
Seriously though, I have both the Fabspeed loud and the straight pipes. I put the straight pipes on last summer for a track event with the intention of using changing it back over afterward, but never did. Believe it or not the straight pipes while louder are in a way more pleasant as they produce less drone/resonance.
If I was going to spend most of my time on long drives or had a bunch of cash invested in a sound system other than that of the TT 3.6 liter variety, I would probably go for the Europipe. I have heard it and agree that it does sound really good as others have said. But, until I get a more dedicated track car and for my shorter drives and especially for the track events, I will keep the Fabspeed on the Turbo.
