deandob is infamous around these parts
Markski,

Yep, the problem is where I am there are not a lot of 996tt as they are a very expensive car Down Under, and the number of modded 996tt is even less. Hence I need to do a lot more research & hope I get it right, as I don't have an opportunity to try before I buy.

Well that is not quite true, I do have a local Porsche tuner a couple of suburbs away who has a good reputation and knows the 996tt, but he is only interested in doing things his way and I'd prefer to DIY and try a couple of different things.

I'm still interested in what happens to the low down torque with ported headers on a turbo car - do you get a loss in TQ at lower revs because of less restriction before the turbo exhaust turbine?

Yep, ultimately it is about unmistakeable feel. But looking at the physics of the v-flow setup, I can't see how it is better than the stock box and a BMC filter in the stock airbox.
Talk to Stephen at Imagine Auto, he has dynos with and without the V-flow, that show the gains with V-Flow. Also, Todd at Protomotive had to write a custom 600 program for a customer with ported headers and V-Flow and the car made considerably more HP when these two mods were added to the base 600 package. About 25 HP additional on the dyno. It's your choice...do what you like...but IMO the V-flow provides documented, proven gains. I don't think you will see that with a cut out in the airbox.

Stay away from the V-flow IMO....unless you like buying MAFs. It also limits what tunes you can use. As you say there is no advantage to the V-flow (physics), because it uses the same stock snorkel. Look at the Sportec intake for more air flow.

Thanks John. I do believe you - and if several tuners have dyno'd and show an advantage then there must be.

Wross996TT, the later versions of the V-flow apparently fixed the Maf problem. The custom tune is more of a problem, I'll have a chat to my tuner about that.

V-Flow does not require a custom tune, but if you have a custom tune done you will maximize the benefits, just lke with any other component.
