White Smoke!
White Smoke!
I got a 03 TT w/ 37k miles. A month or so ago it started smoking, white smoke, on start up. Doesn't smoke after warm up. Not horrible, but not right either. About 2 weeks ago a CEL came on and I took it to the dealer. Dealer said I needed to change spark plugs out. Dealer said smoke was from the bad plugs, and TT were known for smoking more than most. I had local shop change out spark plugs, change oil, change the Polyrib belt, and give it a good once over on Friday. On cold start the car smokes even worse than before. It is almost unbearable the smoke. Last for about a solid minute or so until the engine is warm and goes away. Embarrassing for such a nice car to smoke like a 1960 Ford on its last leg, start up. Any ideas what is causing this?
What says the group? Thanks in advance.

What does it smell like? Any chance it is oil seeping past valves while the car sits? Another possibility might be excessive water condensation somewhere in the exhaust system.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

to be 100% honest, once i went with a new exhaust + turbos... my car just doesnt smoke on a cold morning anymore... i wonder what it has to do with... i know in the RX-7, it used to smoke a little when you first started off cause it burned the excess oil in the engine.
Yea, I use to have a RX-7, but this is a lot more smoke than that. This fills my garage and would choke you. Clears up after warm up though.
Can you buy just the fuel injector cleaner you add to the gas at an auto parts store, or is that a bad idea?

From what I have read on these forums, it is normal. Apparently it is from oil that gets stuck in the combustion chamber. This happens because of the horizontally opposed setup. It happens on my car about once every 6 startups, but only when completely cold.
