E60 M5 Unveiled!
Oh Ben give me a break. As most of these comments come from long time BMW owners and M5 owners (heck I have had 2 e39's and a Euro e34) they are not from "Internet haters" as you so put it.
BMW has gone to a style much like most other car manufacturers. Crappy lines and overdrawn headlamps and flares that say "look at me". The interior does not encompass the driver anymore. It is full of plastic and simulated leather surfaces.
And yes it is a killer engine and tranny. But unless you are a blind mouse you have to care about the cars looks as well. I mean think of it, what if I put that tranny and engine in a POS Yugo. Yeah it would be fast and have a cool engine but when you walk away from it in the parking lot you would look back and go, "Yuck, it is a Yugo". There is a lot to be said for admiring your car.
So in a qualified BMW owners opinion (have owned 14 BMW's) I think the lines are crap and the engines are as always, awsome.
Later man
Tim

This car has more presence than your 911 widebodies.
Better engine, too. Better tranny, too. And it seats four which is a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Styling is controversial, but it's good there are independent thinkers out there. Else they would all look the same. The Bangle hate thing is so tired, justified or no.
If you're in the market for a sedan, that V10 is still looking tasty, right?

Typical BMW dumbing down and justifying. My E39 M5 has the "sport" button, which sharpens steering inputs (very little) and increases throttle response (OK) and the default mode is off. Most M5 owners I know would rather drive their cars this way and have spent countless hours trying to figure out how to make sport the default mode. I would hate to think that they make 400 HP the default mode on the E60 and you have to press a button to get the full HP. This is fine if you can change the default to be full HP, but if you can't, then it is f!@#ing stupid. There's no way an engine that rev's like the V10 with torque much lower than HP will be "too much" for regular driving. These are M-cars for crying out loud and don't need to be governed by Big Brother. If you can't drive it, then don't buy it. As for Benjamin's comments, he's the hater. As Tim said, a lot of us had/have & will have M5's. If you are posting negative M5 opinions on a Maxima board or whatever, then maybe you could be called a hater. I don't think there's one of us here who couldn't get a new M5 if we wanted. Regardless of how great a sedan it might be, it still won't be a sports car. It probably can waste most sports cars but a Turbo won't be one of them. I'm going to hold my opinions on looks and performance until i see and drive one. Until then, I'll be happy driving my "old" M5.
Here's a facelift that makes the ar much more agressive... like the E39. More proportioned wheels and fenders, fatter tail, less clearance, wider front end, squattier roof... and more.
yah...that looks a lot better. Those stock rears look really skinny for a M5.
love it or hate it, it just flat out looks more japanese than German. I don't know about you, but I don't want a car that looks japanese, no matter how fast it is.

here's the info from BMW

I had a 545i SMG for a few weeks. In the shop for most of that time with engine failures, and i-drive absolutely sucks (IMO). Too bad. Otherwise I bet this could've been a fantastic car.

The E60 M5 is butt ugly.
But what you guys should be concerned about is the fact that it can pull 1.3g's in the corners and run the Nordschliefe in 8 minutes flat. As you may recall, Walter Rohrl ran a 7:56 in the 996 Turbo and he is far superior as a driver than anyone on the 'Ring... meaning that the Joneses next door with a new M5 may be eating your Turbos for lunch under most driving circumstances.
Time to mod my GT2 a bit.
