No. The general concensus is that headers are not worthwhile until after 600hp.

No, just port your stockers and have them coated.

Really?? When looking at the stock headers and comparing them to whats on the market, I cant see how upgrading the headers cant gain power... The stock headers look like a glob of metal compared to the racing style headers with the merge collector at the bottom, and they look like a fairly easy install.

I've done back to back tests, below 600 hp, ZERO gain compared to ported stock, and the larger ones lost low end torque....believe it the ugly *** stock headers are pretty damn good......

How about the change in sound. Is there a noticable difference say when running headers with muffler bypass pipes?

Whenever I think of trying headers, I keep going back to the fact the Scott ran 10.6 @ 135 with stock headers with his PE700 and they were not even ported. After I think about that, I feel ceramic coated and ported OEM headers are fine at least up to 700 HP. Also, I am concerned with adding lag with increasing the air volume required to fill the pipes before the turbos...I currently have no lag and I am not sure that will remain with larger and longer headers...

Heck, John...I'm still running the stock headers at over 1k crank HP. Yes, they've been ported....but are the still the stockers.

And now your trapping 148 mph with stock ported headers

That's what I mean - they're fine. No reason to change and I think a change could be a step backward in terms of turbo response...

That's what I was trapping. I haven't been to the track with my new setup yet. I'm hoping to go a bit faster

I agree, bro.

When you port stock headers , what is this ceramic coating that you guys are talking about? And who do you take them to get this done?

I put in the EVO GT2 headers and about all it really did was deepen the sound of the exhaust...I see/feel no difference at all. Didn't dyno but even that wouldn't show much. I think the recommendation to port and polish the stock dual walled headers is the way to go. If you don't have the equipment to do it yourself, you can pay a guy around $100 to do it for you. Also, the equal length EVO headers are a ***** to put on because the mandrel bends get in the way of wrenching several of the nuts....the nuts go on 1/8" turn at a time. Best value?? Port the stock ones.
