Tracks are Open and Time to Upgrade Your Brakes!
For you east coasters and northerns it is track season and it is time to dial in those brakes. Everyone talks about power power power. But on a road course, if you cant stop, you are not fast. Being fast in the turns and out of the turns is what matters. For those doing a weekend DE event, you may not need to go all out, but for those that want the best so they can win bragging rights, we have some specials for you.
Setting up your brakes depends on alot of factors. Your setup with suspension, tires, and driving experience will play into your brake component choices as well. For the newbies, you can start out with a basic pad, fluid, and line upgrade. For the experience drivers, big brake kits is where it is at. The factory 4 pistons have their limitations, and eventually you will find them
So here are some packages I have put together...
Package 1 - The Basic Setup
Upgrade your factory brake components with some more aggressive parts to help handle the lap after lap toll put on your brakes. One of the first things to do is upgrade your pads. Most beginning DE drivers are still using their car on the streets so they need a more aggressive brake pad that will have less fade and perform well in both conditions. This pad does not need to be brought up to high temperature like some race pads. We recommend the Pagid Orange Pads as seen here. This pad is very rotor friendly and works great for long sessions where you are having to use the brakes ALOT. Fading resistant up to 1050F.
Next upgrade is to replace the steel braided brake lines. Many times when you are driving hard, you will notice your pedal become "mushy". This is due to many factors of heat, fluid, pads, and your lines. The factory rubber brakelines Flex outward under pressure. That expansion looses the firmness in your pedal feel. Steel braided brake lines do not flex and keep your pedal firm and responsive. The teflon lining and steel braided wrap provide a strong rigid setup that will not fail either. To further improve upon these brake lines, they are gel coated in a smoke finish to provide longevity and they will not crack. These brake lines are DOT approved and feature machined aluminum fittings and banjo bolts for a direct replacement of the OEM line. Our Agency Power Steel Braided Brake Lines can be seen here.
The final upgrade in this beginning stage package is to change your fluid. Standard brake fluid in most cars cannot take the temperatures and the fluid will then boil causing a complete loss of brakes. If you have ever had this happen coming into a turn, you know the feeling! If you were not aware, most everyone upgrades to a Synthetic Dot 4 Brake Fluid. This synthetic fluid has a much higher boiling point. In combination with your brake lines and pads, your brakes will last much longer under harsh conditions and high temperatures. We recommend Motul RBF600 Dot 4 Fluid. To do the front and rear brakes, we usually suggest 3 bottles.
This complete beginner Brake Upgrade Package is $700 Shipped

Package 2 - Intermediate Driver Upgrade.
For those wanting to keep their stock 18" turbo twist wheels and get alittle more stopping power, we have the Porsche OEM 6piston upgrade kit available. Since about 70% of the braking force is done in the front, having a large front kit will balance out perfect with the rear 4piston setup. The use of the Porsche 6piston kit as found on the GT3 gives you a larger rotor and braking surface area. With the 6piston, you have more clamping force as well. The rotor is still a 1 piece design so there is not any weight savings. The caliper is a cast piece like the stock 4piston one. This OEM upgrade uses Pagid pads so you can easily match them to the rear. The kit includes front calipers, rotors, pads, and works with the stock brake lines. But with this setup we are giving you FREE front and rear steel braided brake lines and 2 bottles of Motul Synthetic brake fluid. We recommend using the Pagid Orange or Yellow RS19 pads on the rear which you can add at an additional cost.
This complete Level 2 Brake Upgrade Package is $2600 Shipped

Package 3 - Hardcore Track Racer
Whether it is Nascar, Touring Cars, F1 Cars, there is a reason many of them use Brembo. Brembo is simply the best. Brembo engineers their systems to provide the best braking needed in a balanced format. Their 2 piece rotors are designed to save rotation weight and their new monoblock calipers are designed for ulimate rigidity. Vivid Racing recommends Brembo's 6piston Monoblock Big Brake Kit for the front of your 996TT. Like the OEM 6piston kit from Porsche, this kit includes a larger rotor available in a 14" or 15" diameter. The 2 piece floating rotor is available in drilled or slotted and provides maximum heat dissipation through its internal vein construction. As compared, the 2 piece rotor weighs an amazing 7lbs less per corner then the OEM 1 piece rotor. The 6piston caliper weighs 1lb more but is much more rigid. The 14" rotor can fit under some 18" wheels such as the Volk, CCW, and some others. They do not fit under the stock turbo twists. The 15" rotor does require 19" wheels. Having tested these on the street and track, these rotors last the abuse put into them. The big brake kit includes front rotors, calipers, pads, and steel braided brake lines. Brembo kits come with an aggressive street pad (Ferodo DS-2500). This pad is very good for the street and track. You can get the Ferodo DS-3000 which is a full race pad. These are around $300ish for the front set. We are including in this package FREE rear steel braided brakelines and 2 bottles of Motul Fluid. Read our article and installation photos of the Brembo kit Here. The Brembo kit comes in red, black, silver, or yellow calipers. For those that want to complete the upgrade with the matching rear kit, Brembo has a 4 piston caliper with an option of a 13.5 inch rotor or a 15 inch rotor. This system comes with lines, pads, 2 piece rotors, and calipers as well. Many of our own 6speed users have already bought this kit from us and use it in force!
