Drove my first 996TT Today!

Well - today was a big day for me.

I am close to putting things together to possibly purchasing one of these beauties that I have loved my whole life.

I have been going back and forth on a 997S because of the new car smell....

but recently I have been looking heavily at the 996TT - because of the great deals on them - and for the fact that I absolutely love the TT model etc...

I have to say - after driving the 996TT - there is absolutely NO comparison to the 997S....

The 997S has nothing to give to the 996TT - in regards to power etc...

What an amazing car. This is the ride that I have been waiting for!

I really want a car that has power and refinement - and the 997S is an amazing car - but it just doesnt have the power of the 996TT....

I know for sure that I wont be able to leave the car stock either - I love to modify my cars - and the 996TT just gives me the platform to really do that with...

I have looked around and talked to a lot of 997S guys - and it seems that I will be very limited in regards to upgrades I can do to the 997S etc..

Anyways, kind of excited.

Still gathering info on the car - and weighing all options...

Thought I would share the fun news.

Have a wonderful night!

Personally, I would take the S over the 996TT. But, if you plan on modding it heavily, 996TT is the way to go...good luck with it!

interesting.

Why would you personally take the S over the 996TT?

NO WAY would I ever buy a regular 911 again. A 911 Turbo is the legend all top sportscars benchmark against

Wow, if you thought the 996tt was quick stock wait until you flash it! I actually thought it was ho-hum until the tune and then it was like a new car. I agree with your description of the two cars. While nice, the 997s just lacks the power of the turbo and I know personally I would get really bored and end up selling the car. But then again I'm an american car red-neck (so I've been told) coming from modded vettes and vipers, hp is a must.

You know - I am not coming from big V8 cars - but I have built a lot of cars and customized them - mainly smaller turbo cars - where I was able to get a good amount of power....

And I just hated the thought of getting it handed to me - by say a subaru or something - when I was in a 100K 997S....

I just didn't like the thought of it!!!

Yeah - I plan on addressing a few things right away - suspension being one of them.

I really love tinkering with my cars - and that's another reason the 997S was bumming me out...

I know I can do stuff to them - just wont see great differences....

But yes - suspension is high on the list!

I had the same dilemma 997s or 996TT and decided to go with the 996TT. I have to say, the car is amazing. I do like the interior of the 997 much better but the 996 is not bad (with the right options - eg sport seats). I found the front of the 997s to be way too conservative. Go for the 996TT!

Yeah - I am heavily leaning towards the 996TT....

On a used model - what should I be looking for with cars with some miles on them?

Any thoughts here?

Be more specific, how many miles on board?

I want to try and get the lowest miles possible - but I am going to look at a lot of cars - to find the one I like the best.

I am going to do my best to keep it 35K or under...

Your logic makes pefect sense to me. I like the 997s, but it just didn't feel siginificantly different from my regular Carrera. The Turbo on the other hand felt different right away. In fact, this goes from all the Turbos I've been in/driven from 1990 on up.

The 996TT is the logical choice. The car has not only a higher horsepower and torque motor, but it also has a better motor. The 997 NA car have gone to a conventional oiling system while the 996TT still retains the dry sump oiling. The bottom end block and everything is also superior on the 996TT. I personally wouldn't trade my 996TT for a 997S either, with a few years on the car I'm not afraid to drive the car hard. If you want a garage queen, then buy new.
