Changing out interior dash parts...

I got tired of my wife commenting how the plastic parts on the dash (side air vents, center console, etc) do not look right for a "super car" listed new at $150K. So I ended up purchasing the additional leather parts (from Suncoast...thx Aaron ) which are not included in the standard "full leather" package.

Are there any good DIY instructions on replacing these parts without causing damage to adjacent pieces? Or does anyone have recs for a reliable non-dealer shop that would be able to do the job in So Cal?

Thx

These parts are all fairly easy to install. Porsche really made it easy to swap parts out on the 996. If you look on our website www.macarbon.com we have install guides for the side ait vents, center console and some others. Just make sure to take your time, and interior install tools help to not damage the rest of the interior. Hope this helps.

Nice site, thx. Too bad I was not going for the carbon fiber.
I saw the DIY (great instruct & pics BTW) for the side air vents. Do you have a similar DIY instruct for the center AC horseshoe piece around the center air vent and Nav?

In the works

We are working on that guide but its really just a matter of prying it off. Getting the lighter out is the tricky part.... there is a trick. Which I forgot at the moment! Maybe we'll have something up tomorrow. We'll let you know if we do.

I think, if I remember right, the lighter is a push and twist and it pops off. The rest of the center console is easy if you take your time...

It's not so difficult... The majority of shops can perform this task...

The horseshoe pulls right out. the lighter is a PIA. I never figured a way to do it...so I destroyed the stock horseshoe to get it out....not a problem as I did not planning on usine the stock piece ever again...

for many of the items try renntech.org for DIY.

Tried renntech but not too specific on what I was looking for in the DIY section. Macarbon has a nice DIY for the side airvent. Otherwise, I have just seen "and the horseshoe is removed" on other posts. Is it better to work on one side/direction of the horseshoe to initiate removal? Some dash pieces I have removed in the past on other makes seem to be directional (eg start on lower end and work up). I guess the lighter separation comes after removing the horseshoe from the dash?

Otherwise, sounds easy enough I will just do myself...
Thx guys

For the lighter, you will see two tabs inside the lighter, you need to bend those in a bit and push the lighter out, once you have the switch surround out you will see what i mean a little better

I may be blind or clueless, but I can't find any installation links anywhere. I did find some nice CF sill plates that I may need to order though.

If you look under our individual parts we have links to our install pdf's for the parts that we have install guides for. The links are in red and say "view the install insructions" Hope this helps out.
Thanks,
Lane
