Harness Question

Instead of putting my aftermarket seats in the Turbo, I'd love to be able to use a harness with the factory seats. Since I'm going to be using this car for a daily driver, the factory seats are much more convenient.

Anyways, I can use a 6-point anti-sub type system to wrap around my thighs because the factory seats don't have the pass through hole. The problem is the shoulder straps. I've seen people use a special strap to secure the shoulder straps together because the factory seats have the integrated headrests without holes for the straps. I think there's one that mounts behind the headrest and I've heard of one that mounts across the sternum.

What are your opinions?

Jake,
Besides the physical locating of the shoulder belts on your shoulders, you need to be concerned with spinal compression as a result of an accident. This occurs when the attachment points of the shoulder harnesses are below the level of your shoulders without any guiding device to take the component force.

I don't know if the belts will work with the stock seats, but at a minimum, you will need a harness guide bar.

This one by Brey Krause is pretty slick. I saw it in person in the AWE-Tuning car. They can probably lend more insight. Mike? Todd?

I have the harness bar already. Thanks! Just concerned about the strap for the shoulder harness. Is it effective? Where do I get one?

Oooooo. Yep. I guess that's it. Does Schroth make one? I already had Schroth harnesses and would like to keep the same.

Anyways, are these safe? Anyone using them?

Jake, If you arent going to install harnesses the correct way then you are better off with just your stock 3 point belts.

When did I say that I wasn't going to install them the correct way?

The six point system with the sub belts under the leg is perfectly acceptable for seats without the hole. That's why they make 6 point systems.

The 'H' straps may be questionable but companies are making them, so that's why I'm inquiring for people's opinions on them.

Are you implying that the H straps are not safe?

Jack, about the Schroth harness. Schroth only makes the harness' that are "V" shaped not "H" shaped like Sparco, so they connect the two vertical (shoulder) straps behind your head at the top of the seat. The seatbelt look like this.

But, and this is a big BUT, Schroth does not have the Porsche stock seat as an approved seat to use a harness on.
