Do Miles Matter?
Do Miles Matter?
Now I know they matter to some extent, but I am trying to get a piece of mind.
Here is what I am facing. I am actively looking to purchase a 996TT. I can find some with low miles (which was my first thought) and I can find them with a bit higher miles in the say 40K mile range.
Now - I may be able to find something low mileage - but they could also be HARD miles - and then the other end of it - higher miles - could be pampered miles...
In the end - I am going to buy this car - and it will be driven daily. So I will put between 12 - 20K miles a year on this car give or take.
In the end - three years down the road - I may put on say 50 - or 60K miles on the car.
If i go with something that is a great buy and well maintained - at say 40K miles - I may be pushing 100K miles on the car.
Is that a bad thing? Will I be facing major maintenance issues?
BTW - I will be doing Mods to this car. It wont stay stock more than a week once I buy it - so take that into consideration as well.
Plans for sure -
Clutch
ECU Flash
Exhaust
Intake
Air Cleaner
Short Shifter
Wheels / Tires and some Body mods - wing etc..
OK - Thank you in advance for the insight here.

As long as the maintenance has been done to the car the mileage isn't that important. However, keep in mind that a higher mileage car is harder to sell but as long as the price is right it shouldn't be that difficult. Good luck.
Mine had 30k on it when I bought it and I am selling it now w/ 41k on it. Car drives great and the miles didn't matter to me. If you find one you like, then I wouldn't let miles get in the way, especially if you plan to drive it daily.
Thanks guys. I'm on the hunt - and will take all of this into consideration.
Really want a fun car thats strong - to enjoy and drive...
If anyone thinks of any maintenance issues I should be thinking about - please let me know.
Have a good night.

Andy, I had a look at a car that had 13k miles on it that had a big "red" break kit. I saw cracks in the rotors! You know they weren't the original brakes too. After looking into another low mileage example I saw signs it had been in a big one (variations in paint front and back of the car).
Suffice to say I looked at 10 -12 cars before I picked mine; even then I was nervous. The main thing to note these are SOLID cars. You've been active enough on the boards to know what to look for. Value for money-wise, I think a 30-40 k mile car is a good price point with plenty of hard charging life left. There are enough of us around to give you a second (and third!) opinion.

Wheel bearings? I was surprised to recently read that 20-30k isn't unusual!
It is an (almost) impossible calculus- how to tell 'good' miles from 'bad'. Even if you are buying a one owner car from the owner... is that latte sipping foo foo a track junky on weekends? It really turns into an overall impression based on a lot of things. Owner, mods, records, quality and detectability of any repairs, etc.
Over time you will pay a certain amount in maintenance on a per mile basis- while it is obvious that a car with 20k will need a 30k service, whereas a car that just had that done is 'cheaper', there is the issue of wear and tear and or deferred maintenance. If there is a set amount of 'life' that will need replacement by say 60k, if you buy it at 45k you will only get 15k prior to being hit with 100% of the service costs. If you buy it at 20k you have 40k...
Your mods will replace one the major wear parts (clutch). Suspension might be something to consider too.

Buy the newest you can afford and get a PPI. People say it doesn't matter but I know I wouldn't buy a TT with higher mileage and the fact that your asking that very question should tell you something. There are WAY too many out there to settle
