ABS/PSM lights on...again!!!

Well, I have not posted for quite a while, but yesterday while driving home, I get the dreaded ABS/PSM lights on. Basically, had been off of full boost for a few days, and a bike took off and I went WOT....car took off, hit 1.1 bar and bucked real hard around 5k rpm's, then pulled again. I look down and the ABS/PSM lights are staring at me. I know it was not the rev limiter, and I had full boost right afterwards. The car is not in limp mode either. Now my car has been uneventful for the past year and a half....with zero problems. I tried to take her out afterwards, and she sputtered and has a huge hiccup shifting in between gears. Once the rpms climb above 1200-1300, the car drives fine. Also, there is no CEL. I checked the brake lights (I know the switch fails), and they are working fine. I cleaned the MAF with some Wurth cleaner, and the lights are still on, after a battery disconnect....ughhh!!!

Now the only difference is that this is the first time I didn't use Shell gas. I was not in the area this past Tuesday, and got Chevron gas (of course it was 93).

Anyone have any ideas....I checked all of the hoses that I could see in the engine compartment, and will take the bumper off this afternoon to see if a hose popped off the intercooler. Thanks for any help....and I have not had the codes read either.

Well, I have another question, since I think it is my MAF, and everything is closed today....is it ok to drive my car some distance? I went into work, and the idle was very off, but the car drove fine...just very sluggish.

I plan to buy a new MAF, but nothing is open today and the Turbo is my only car. I do not want to start going downtown and have the car die out on me or do some damage with a bad MAF. Thanks!

I don't think I had the same problem as you did, but my ABS/PSM light recently was due to a bad left front speed sensor ($300 parts & labor bill).

I had a similar problem. New MAF did not fix the problem. It ended up being a bad secondary circuit in the alternator.

Thanks everyone! I scrapped the v-flow(had it on for 2 years...no issues ever), cleaned the MAF, and still had the triage of ABS/PSM/CEL lights on. I had a VW tech(I am a finance Director for VW) hook up a Siemans VW code reader and the code was "low voltage MAF".

So, I called a performance shop Monday morning that had the MAF for $191 with free shipping, but ended up inquiring about expedited shipping....paid an extra $10, and got the MAF on Tuesday by noon (and the MAF came from San Fran to Maryland that quick)!

Installed it in 2 mins, disconnected the battery for another 2 mins, and the car runs perfectly with no hiccup at all. The only thing I initially noticed was the idle was hunting around and a huge and I mean huge cloud of smoke on start up. I guess the car was running so rich with the bad MAF and there must have been a ton of fuel dumped in the engine. I restarted the car again, and everything is looking great now!

Thanks everyone and also for the "search" feature on 6Speed!!!

Did you continue to use your V-Flow with new maf or went back stock? Did this new MAF work long for you?

I have a V-Flow and just had new MAF die on me in 11 days...

Wow, what an old post! Anyway, I did eventually revert back to the V-Flow with the new MAF. It has been over 3 years and had no other issues with the MAF.

I did have a very erratic idle last year and bad hesitation to about 1500 rpms. Decided to change the plugs, and had one plug's ceramic part near the electrode completely shattered off. My buddy who is Nissan Master tech and only guy who can touch GTR's in his shop said in his 20+years of being a tech never seen a spark-plugs ceramic shatter like that. After I changed to new plugs, the car has been perfect.

I too am trying to determine why my PSM / ABS lights are on. I have a question for those of you who have had these lights come on and found it to be something other than a faulty pump or brain. When the lights were on was your ABS actually functional?
