Flash upgrade, man i am confused

OK, before everyone starts saying i went with xxxx and i am very satisfied like the dozen other threads that already exist, here is my concern.

So far, all i have is an exhaust and i will get a filter. I know that if i want a flash, going with FVD, UMW, GIAC or any other won't change much since these are the basic mods and everyone has a good map for it. My problem is when i will want to upgrade because you all know, you never have enough.

I asked and read from a couple of tuners and i was worried about the fact that i would need a new flash if i buy some turbos. Problem is that every tuner will offer free reflash or at a smaller cost but only if you buy the turbos and upgrades from them. I really like to buy used so i am kind of stuck with that. I don't want to be stuck with a tuner because i will need a new flash with them, i want to be able to shop around and buy from the one that makes me the best deal.

Now i know FVD won't charge anything if you buy turbos from them, i know Kevin charges 500 if you buy from him but what if you only want a reflash? (those two and the others) Do you always have to buy an other complete flash?

If i had a tuner locally, i would pick that one, easy choice, but i am in Freezing Canada and most tuners here don't know the difference between a 996tt and a boxster so...

i'd like to hear mostly from guys that upgraded turbos and needed a new flash.

thanks a lot.

I don't have a "dog in the fight" yet because i don't yet own a Porsche, but maybe you should wait a bit for the flash.
Try to find your turbo setup, buy that, and then do the flash at the same time.
I know it's tough to put off modding the car, but it may save you some money and put you in a better position to choose the proper software to support your setup at that time.

with Softronic, your modularity is very good. There is a $300 revision fee if you upgrade anything that would be turbo, fuel, engine internals. So if you buy a basic K16 or K24 flash then decide to go with say the K24/18G or K16/16G or even our AP650 kit, then its $300. One thing that is better about Softronic is the ability to easily upgrade and tune ANY setup. Softronic works with many companies such as Proto and FVD, so they have maps for just about everything. Also this is a TRUE OBDII flash. No chip soldering, no sending your ECU in, etc.

Same boat. You are exactly right.

I just said 'Who makes the very best turbos?" Once I figured that out, the rest was easy. I got his flash.

I went with EPL because he can and will tune ANYTHING and the price doesn't differ whether you got the hardware from him or someone else. He doesn't need to have seen that setup before or have a "map" for it in his "library". He can dig in and make a tune from scratch to fit any combination of hardware.
If you found a way to strap your wife's hairdryer to the engine, he could tune it. It's comforting to know, no matter what I come up with in the future (meth, water injection, straight pipes, new and strange turbo, etc.), Tony will tune it and it'll only cost me an hour or two of dyno time.

research, research, research. do some searches in here and elsewhere. in cars like this, money should not be the biggest factor. Loosing your motor due to to lean a mixture should be your biggest factor.
