Wastegate Question for K24/18G Turbos?

I purchased the 1.2 bar wastegates from Speed Gallery for my K24 18G Turbo upgrade. Is that going to be too much to use with 91 octane. Should I just go back to my stock k24 wastegates? I am using a Soft Tronic tune. What are fellow California Turbo owners with the K24 18G upgrade running bar wise for boost?

Ive put together a few customer cars running 1.2 bar on K24 on 91 octane, its a pretty common setup. We have done 1.4 bar running GT hybrids still on 91 octane. For what its worth the stock k24 were giving 1.0 bar on the stock gates and tightening the adjustment screw usually gets them up to 1.1-1.2 range reliably.

Not sure I understand your question....@ questions...1 Do you want to boost 1.2 on 91 octane, 2. Something about wastegates??? So, do you know what the wastegate function is? and why folks "upgrade" the wastegate (actually the springs)? The stock wastegate springs are very conservative...therefore they release some of the pressure (from exhaust) prematurely, thus directly effecting the ability to create/hold boost. The signal is still sent from the ECU...I'm not sure what a 1.2 wastgate is...I can only guess it is what the supplier "marketed" the wastgate being able to hold. Thy still need to be adjusted for your tune and hardware...and equally over both turbos.

Running 1.2 on K24s is probably at the high limit for 91 octane (I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions), but the car will still pull timing if it needs to.

I have the 1.2 upgraded wastegates from speed gallery. That should mean my wastegates will be open all the time at 1.2 bar correct?

Sorry I am a novice when it comes to modifying a turbo porsche.

I have heard from some parties 1.2 bar is too much for 91 octane, and I have heard from others that 1.2 bar is fine for 91 octane.

I am just confused

If you dont want to blow your car up I would put it .9 bar or 1 bar springs MAX for 91 octane.
to answer your question- yes the minimum boost you will run is 1.2 bars... and on 18gs thats calling it very close...

what would be a "good" boost to have with 98 ron fuel on the following set up?

k24/18g's - flash - exhaust - filter

You will be fine, these cars knock back timing if its needed but it shouldn't be a problem... set it at 1.1 if you are worried and can't sleep at nights because of it, lol.

Yeah but a handful of motors also blew up recently that you may not be aware of... so 91 octane = 1 bar MAX...

Trust me I know...

If the tune is right there should be no reason for it to blow, but I am new here so I am not aware of the slew of blown motors recently...

there is not enough octane at 91 for the k24/18gs to run 1.2 bars... no matter who tunes it...
Top of 3rd gear you will have some serious knock sensing.... then soon later KABOOM...

MARKSKI-
I have seen your great car, and am impressed and I am focused on getting the most from what I have, with that said your advise would be appreciated-
You can see the mods to my car below, if I am running 93 octane should I modify or tweak my wastegates on the K-24's if I want to attain peak performance, and what affect will it have on that performance?
Is race gas harmful to my set up?
Thanks-
TCB
