To those that run bigger turbos, do you have a problem with PS2 tires?

To those that run bigger turbos, do you have a problem with traction?

Hi all, I have just installed the AP650 kit from Vivid Racing. I am running 19" Michelin Pilot Soprt tires with about 80 % tread. One problem I have is wheel spin, as boost builds to around 5 krpm and above, I hardly have any traction at all. I can hear the tire slipping a sec and start gripping and start slipping again. I am not sure if this is tire related or software related that is why I want to get some feedbacks. BTW, no psm light when this happens. Can you give me some suggestions? Thanks.

Iam running GT610 with headers and 18" PS2 in OEM sizes. I have run a new set as well as a worn out set. The only time they slip is some times in second gear under WOT the backs tires slip for less than a second when the turbos kick in.

What kind of clutch did you upgrade to? The fact that you are not seeing slippage until 5k rpm + no PSM light makes me think it might be the clutch slipping rather than the tires.

My car is the same way with PS2, even when they were new. The PSM kicks in on 1st and between 1-2 due to tire spin when wot; I have to turn off the psm when I want to drive a little crazy. Since you are running 19", it makes the situation worse. I believe PS2s are good all around tires but they are not as sticky as some. I'm thinking about switching them to something else after I have some good use with them.

with me, on 4wd, psm off, and relatively new 18' ps2's... i barely have any traction issues at all. clutch is upgraded, relatively new as well.

im over 600 hp on pump gas.

i only loose traction when the weather is cold... ie winter days under 50 degrees, which is understandable since we are all running summer performance tires.

aside for that, if the road is clean and smooth, no loss of traction. 1/4 mile strip included.

After my car came back from protomotive I had zero traction with ps2's with the 3 gears. Running ra-1's/888's now. No problems.

My GT2 puts down 625 rwhp and I had no issues. Only in the winter below 50 I had to be careful.

If you want to stay with a street compound, I recommend the Yokohama Advan AD07. For dry grip it's about the closest tire to an R compound we sell. Sry grip, especially when warm, is better than the PS2 by a bit. I've heard good things about the R888 but we don't sell them so I don't know anything about them.

What size tires are you running ?

What tire pressure are you running ?

I have run the PS2's at the Texas Mile, Quarter Mile, Brainerd, Road America, all Events at the TX2K8!, etc
and have overall been very pleased. It certainly not is the best at anything (kind of like
our cars), but it is very good in wet, dry, street, OK at the track etc. My buddy also
runs them on his S/C Viper with good success. I run them about 33/30 HOT at the track, lower at the drag strip, higher at high speed events

Good luck and I also would like to try Damon's Recommendation.

MK

Raudel: I just saw you are going to do a little 3.8 upgrade...WOW!
