Top Gear Tests the Nissan GTR - Stigs time...
I have been lurking for a while, but I just had to comment on this because I find it sort of funny. On the one hand you say it is awesome, but you started off by confirming all the reasons not to like it and that is why I have little interest in the car as a driving enthusiast despite its engineering prowess.
And yes, I drove one back in February and it was probably one of "those ringers" so it was even "teh fastAr"
I suppose if you are the type to measurebate over magazine tests numbers it is fine, but I have driven cars that are much slower that are much more fun to drive

well its funny how alot of you keep claiming the car isnt involving, is easy to drive and not a car a driving enthusiast would want.
but Jeremy Clarkson (a driving enthusiast) said that its is a drivers car. he's even used phrases like "it feels anolog" and "it feels human" to describe the feel of the car. and showed to be having an absolute blast. also hurting its neck while doing so.
some of you just have what it seems to be insecurities in your purchases being that there is a newer, faster car on the block.
there is always a big, badder, faster car.
dont be so insecure and say such lame things

I commented on the opinion of someone who owns one and it seems his experience concurs with my experience after having driven one
And JC described it as somewhat boring on the road in the earlier episode and it wasn't until he got onto a closed track and started driving like a hooligan (because we all can drive like that right?) that his impression changed. Seeing how it is a ROAD car and most people don't spend all their time on a track, I personally put more weight on road impressions.
Also, you must be quite gullible to think that JC really hurt himself in the car, the show is quite scripted in places and he even made comments earlier in the segment that set up the gag

You're the ONLY GUY in this thread who gets a pass on this subject. The rest of us have opinions, and some of us have experience with one of the cars in question... I honestly don't even think you can get a good idea of the capabilities of ANY car unless you've spent 1000 miles or more in it...

NOTE: I OWN BOTH CARS, 99TTS and GT-R. I am a fan boy for neither.
Here are my thoughts:
Both cars are fast.
Both cars have pros and cons.
996TTS is a drivers car. It is a physical driving experience and you need skill to make that car run as it has been engineered to do. The car gives you feed back and is a harsher drive. Do I love the car? Absolutely, this car will be in my arsenal until I can no longer drive. (My P-Car is modified and it ain't no sissy.) Over 120 mph, this car walks the GT-R (that is if the GT-R hasn't disappeared over the horizon.)
The GT-R is a friggin rocket. I do not feel the sensation of speed. It is a disconnected driving experience. Everything that has been written about this car is true; in fact, it is a car made for driving dummies. It makes up for one's driving inexperience. Off the line through 120 mph, this car hauls ***. I find the car to be so so in looks. I can't say I would keep this car.
As an owner of both, my nod goes to the 996TTS, but not by much.
For all those who want to bash the GT-R, my suggestion is that you actually get in the seat and take a drive. It is awesome. So, let's not debate based on speculation; for those who actually hate the car, get in the seat before you utter the first word of criticism. It may not convert you to the dark force, but it will give you respect for what the car is -- a monster, specifically, Godzilla.

I agree... TOOL, what have you driven? What are you driving? When are you taking delivery of your GT-R?

So you have driven one to say otherwise?

And what purchase would that be?

The GT-R is the real deal. You will find that out the moment you drop your right foot to the pedal.
No lag, just go.

secondly he did\ say the car wasnt that exciting out on normal public roads with everyday driving.
but we also saw what the car is like when you can play with it
i have privilaged friends and get to use their cars when i want,
oh and i drive a Pinto. does it matter what i drive?
Actually, Yes it does. I know a certain young man who details cars. He gets to "drive" lots of cool cars and often talks of getting to drive this or cruise in that. The problem there is he considers moving a car around a driveway or parking lot as "driving" it...
Kinda like that phrase in Pulp Fiction - "Just because you are a character, doesn't mean you have Character".
Look I'm not trying to hammer you or anyone else here for their love of "cars". But let's face it, if you haven't spent significant time in a car like this, and in a controlled environment where you can forget about tickets and jail, You'll never be able to relax and focus on what the car, and more importantly YOU can do.
There are very few guys on this board who are capable of giving a real world review on a performance mod for their 996TT. Of them, there are much fewer who will have the chance to give an accurate and unbiased review of one of these cars (pick a Porsche or GT-R) in any situation I care about.
I'm sure you get to drive many cars, and based on the tone of your post, I bet you're not being honest, you probably own one or two, but I call them as I see them.
When I see one of these GT-Rs on track, and have a chance to run with it, I'll make a more informed decision. However, Until that happens, or I get the chance to drive one myself, I'll stick to what I know about Nissan (22 years owning them, modding them, and writing about them) and my Porsche 996 Turbo...

The rate of speed the car can corner at is nothing we didn't already know and could be said of lots of cars, it has little to do with what my point was.
ive driven quite a few cars but never trackd. 996 and 997 911 TT's, GT3's, a GT2 as well as a CGT, z06s, Gallarados, M3/M5, RS4's, 360's and F430's, Phantom, Cont. GT, plus a little more.
i have privilaged friends and get to use their cars when i want,
oh and i drive a Pinto. does it matter what i drive?

Don't get me wrong, I like the car alright, but it does not get my blood boiling.
I am not sure why the GT-R fanboys always have to challenge anyone that does not think the car is the bees knees.
And for the record, I have no horse in this race, I neither own a Porsche TT or a GT-R (though have driven both) and if I cared about such things, my "purchase" is actually over 2 seconds faster around the Top Gear track than the GT-R, so I am not defending anything.
If I have any bias it is that I want my fun cars to be exciting to drive, not just fast.

well im not him. and either you are going to take what i say at face value or believe whatever you want.
Yeah, and how many times has JC said similar stuff over the years? JC exaggerates and carries on about things, that is the MO of the show and why it is entertaining.

Good for you, I have driven many of those cars as well, but have you driven the GT-R to dispute my comments?

i find it funny that when it comes to the GT-R mag reviews dont matter but when its comes to any of the other cars(z06, 911) come out the review matter.
just like when the zr-1 and cts-v times were announced with out a video they were considered true. but even when nissan provided a video to back the GT-Rs time. its a conspiracy
there are alot of double standards now that the new kid on the block is bullying everyone else around. whther people want to respect the car or not. its respect will be gained one way or another
also i never challeged what you said. that was one of the other posters. i have also read from z06 and 911 TT owners who say they like their GT-Rs more than their 911 TT and z06. and even go to say how mcu h better it is (to them) than the two at what and how
