You guys arent doing you due dilligence. Unless the TT is the first manual you've ever owned, you should have been offering opportunities in the other cars you had that you may have been less worried about.

My wife first showed interest in driving a stick when I had my M5, I was really wishing I had kept my Isuzu rodeo I had from college but I said screw it, the clutch is going anyways, why not. It was rough, but I stayed patient. I even managed to get her an M3 when we went on vacation for a month to drive. But she would get nervous even though I didnt say anything while she was driving and refused, then she refused to practice when we got back in the M5.

So when I sold the M5 and got the Porsche and she tried that "I wanna drive the Posche" NOPE!!!!!! I tried to teach you and you wouldnt learn, so I'm justified in my saying no. Of course she still doesnt insist, and my car is rather hardcore, so she'd be scared anyways.

Why don't some of you guys who have wives who can't drive a manual send them off to a driving school? If they can't drive a manual in the first place, they really have no business driving a 996 Turbo.

I bet you're not married. If you keep this attitude, I don't think you will... or maybe for 6 months.

I asked my wife to drive "our" TT all the time, but she won't because she knows I like my TT so much. The thing is, if she breaks something, I just get better parts.

it's not "wives" that drive like that....it was her. some ladies can drive quite well! =D some are on this board. =)

like some of the other members mentioned, perhaps she can enroll in driving courses or rent a car for a day. i've seen some gentlemen with some pretty nice cars that didn't know how to drive them very well....shift....etc. it's the person, not the gender. i think everyone should learn how properly drive and utilize performance cars. buy hey, we all had to learn once.

okay...i'll graciously bow out now. =D

You're right. I have no interest in being married. I can't quite fathom how its prudent for someone to put his/her spouse in a car he/she isn't prepared to drive and expect him/her to handle it. What is wrong with professional instruction, especially for a high powered rear engined car?

BoxsterGirlie01,

My comment was directed toward the men who have posted on this thread that their wives can't drive. I did not mean to imply in any way that I think that all women can't drive.

It is just a married thing; there are things that you do and things that you don't. When you care about the other person more than youself or your car, you are graduated.

Why is that? My household is about being responsibleand my wife knows that, it applies to both of us, if she wont put in the time to learn what she's doing, then she wont be doing it.

Not a control factor, but a household standard.

Hi Heavychevy,
Don't want to get into the relationship thing. I try avioding any implication of giving her wrong ideas. If she wants to be a better driver and wants to do DE, I'm a 100% supportive. However, as long as she is a decent driver, I wouldn't try to change the way she drives because I'm worry about she would wreck the car. And it goes the other way too, my wife wouldn't ask me to take a driving course or wood working class because she thinks I'm not a good driver or a good enough handy man.

I completely agree with that statement, but the other guy said we should get our wives proper driving lessons in a stick shift before putting them in a 6 speed Porsche and I agree. Not only safer for them, but smart as well as doing foolish impulsive stuff will only put her in danger and damage your wallet.

I just didnt see why he couldnt have a lasting marriage with that mindset.

For safety reason, I totally agree with having proper driving lessons on a stick before getting in a TT because of the power level.
